Abstract: Described herein is a method detecting a plurality of upper respiratory tract sub-regions automatically. Volume of interest (VOI) is identified based on the extraction of certain features, such as regional properties and shape-based features. The complete airway volume from a patient's data is identified by observing the area and eccentricity profiles of the certain volume/organ in the skull. Maxillary sinus area and eccentricity profile in the sagittal view is chosen in the present subject matter for level 1 VOI identification. Once a level 1VOI is identified, the other sub-regions existing in the same VOI are further identified as individual level 2 VOI. Level 3 VOI is extracted based on the shape and geometric features of the organ. The extracted level 3 VOI is considered as the active contour that is followed by the initialized contour for the accurate segmentation of upper airway sub-regions.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a superhydrophilic biodegradable cross linked foam membrane and a process for preparation of said foam membrane from a seaweed polysaccharides by blending with amino biopolymers/amino acids/proteins/amino compounds followed by crosslinking with a naturally occurring cross linker, genipin. The foam membrane can be used as a substitute for synthetic membrane for varied applications including membrane separation for oil-water emulsions, oil-water mixtures and other aqueous-organic mixtures under ambient conditions. These foam membranes can be recycled and reused more than three times without considerable decrease in flux rate and stability. The separation methodology of the mixtures using the foam membrane of the present invention is gravity-driven and therefore, simple and energy-efficient.

Abstract: A water sampling device has a rigid body, a top lid, extension members, a horizontal member, a spring, a rod, at least one polymer membrane and a bottom lid. The top lid has a shaft attached to it and the shaft traverses through the horizontal member. The bottom lid is connected to the rod upon which the at least one polymer membrane is attached perpendicularly. The water sampling device undergoes two different stages of lid opening and closing while in operation of collecting water sample to concentrate diversified bacteria from different water depths. The top lid, the shaft and the spring co-operate with the rigid body and the horizontal member such that in a first state, the top lid seals the top end opening while in a second state allows fluid to flow to an inside portion of the rigid body.

Abstract: Molasses based alcohol distilleries generate highly contaminated, dark coloured and foul smelling effluent (bio-methanated spent wash, BMSW, also known as post methanated effluent). While the prevailing practices for treatment of alcohol distillery effluents operate on the premises of “liability management”, high potassium content of spent wash (ca. 2% w/v in BMSW) offers an opportunity for its utilisation in production of potash fertilizers—a major agricultural input. The present invention provides process for potash recovery from BMSW with concomitant environmental remediation of effluent. The process involves pre-treatment of BMSW followed by potash recovery through selective precipitation technique to produce potash fertilizers and activated carbon while generating a relatively benign effluent (>80% remediation). It may further be possible for the alcohol distilleries to achieve ZLD status by incorporating commercially practiced water recovery techniques (viz.

Abstract: Semiconductor-Oxides Nanotubes-Based Composite Particles Useful for Dye-Removal and Process Thereof, has been described in this invention, which relates to an innovative method, involving an ion-exchange mechanism operating under the dark-condition in an aqueous solution, for the processing of innovative products consisting of the nanotubes of semiconductor-oxides deposited on (or anchored to or attached to) the surface of flyash particles and metal-oxide (magnetic and non-magnetic) nanoparticles. The resulting micro-nano and nano-nano integrated composite particles find potential application in the removal of an organic synthetic-dye from an aqueous solution and industry effluent via the surface-adsorption process, involving the ion-exchange and electrostatic-attraction mechanisms, operating in the dark-condition.

Abstract: The present invention relates to small molecule 4-(piperazin-1-yl)quinazolin-2-amino compounds with formula (I) useful for inhibiting signalling by certain toll-like receptors (TLRs), especially TLR9. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are members of the larger family of evolutionarily conserved pattern recognition receptors which are critical first line of defense for self-nonself discrimination by the host immune response. Aberrant TLR9 activation is implicated in autoreactive inflammation in different autoimmune diseases. The invention depicts compounds with formula (I), composition and methods can be used in a number of clinical applications, including as pharmaceutical agents and methods for treating conditions involving unwanted immune activity due to TLR9 activation.
