  • Patent number: 5499521
Abstract: Apparatus intended for bending heavy through thin wall pipe and tubing includes a generally circular bending shoe mounted for rotation about a first axis and having a plurality of semi-circular concave grooves in its outer surface. The grooves are of differing sizes and located in side-by-side axial spaced planes perpendicular to the first axis. A separate pair of bending rollers is provided for cooperation with each separate concave groove. Each pair of rollers includes a first roller and a second roller having concave exterior grooves and mounted on a bracket for independent rotary movement about separate second and third axes. A support arm is joined to the bracket for permitting tilting movement of the bracket relative to the support arm about a fourth axis parallel to the second and third axes.

  • Patent number: 5027489
Abstract: A device for swaging a ferrule onto the periphery of a cylindrical member includes a first piston mounted for reciprocation within a body and an anvil member drivingly connected to the first piston. The anvil member has a recess at one end to receive an end of the cylindrical member. A camming device is associated with the anvil member for camming a ferrule carried on the end of the cylindrical member into tight peripheral engagement. A second piston is mounted for reciprocation within the body in spaced relation to the first piston. A movement of the second piston is necessary in order to move the first piston. Located between the first and second pistons are an unexpandible chamber which contains a constant amount of fluid and a spring for resiliently urging the pistons away from each other.

  • Patent number: 4995646
Abstract: A connector assembly for permitting sealed passage of tubular lines through portions between separate chambers comprises a first fitting body having a through passage for connection to one of the chambers. The through passage has an outwardly open end with a circumferentially continuous conical mouth. A first rigid disk member with a conical outer surface is received in the conical mouth. Aligned with the first disk member is a second disk member and there are aligned openings formed through both disk members to permit the tubular lines to pass therethrough. Conical chambers are formed about the openings in the first disk member with ferrules positioned therein to closely encircle the tubular lines. A coupling acts to drive the second disk toward the first disk to drive said ferrules into the conical chambers to thereby produce sealing of the ferrules with the lines and to apply force to the first disk to produce sealing between the first disk and the conical mouth.

  • Patent number: 4879819
Abstract: A gauge for fittings of the type including a coupling nut having a threaded internal opening and adapted to encircle a cylindrical member and a ferrule positioned on the cylindrical member, the gauge being used for determining the pull up of the ferrule and the swaging of the cylindrical member, includes an indicating unit having a readout for showing whether the swaging of the cylindrical member is within tolerances. A piston is movably mounted on the indicating unit and is operatively connected to the readout. The piston includes a body having a bore and an external threaded area on the body circumferentially of the bore to threadedly engage the threaded internal opening of the coupling nut carried on the cylindrical member. The piston further includes a section within the bore for aligning the cylindrical member with the bore and for limiting the extent of movement of the cylindrical member into the bore. A master is provided for calibrating the gauge.

A camming body is associated with the anvil member for camming a ferrule carried on the end of the cylindrical member into tight peripheral engagement therewith. A gauge device is associated with the camming body for measuring the movement of the camming body relative to the body housing the piston. The camming device includes an articulated signal member having a first arm and a second arm one end of which is secured to the end of the first arm. The second arm is selectively pivotable about the first arm and a resilient spring is used to urge the second arm to one end position in relation to the first arm. A biasing member is used for moving the signal member from a first to a second position.

  • Patent number: 4843858
Abstract: A tube bending apparatus of the radius block and slide block type is provided with a one-way drive means for permitting selectable driven rotation of the radius block means thereof in the bending direction while preventing reverse driving. Interchangeable radius block and slide block means are provided to accommodate different size bend radii and tube diameter to be accommodated. The apparatus also includes slide block retainer means for accommodating different height slide blocks, as well as tube clamping means for accommodating different tube diameters. The slide block means may be marked with indicia for aiding in the gauging of center-to-center dimensional gain in finished 45 and 90 degree forward and reverse bends prior to forming the bends. A method for pre-gauging center-to-center dimensional gain of such bends is also described. A second embodiment of the tube bending apparatus includes radius block and slide block means having inclined concavities for forming radiused overlapping 360 degree bends.

  • Patent number: 4796877
Abstract: A holder and saw guide device for an elongated tube or rod type workpiece includes V-shaped support areas accommodating various size workpieces in a first cavity. A gripping member extends into the first cavity for positioning in a gripping relation with the workpiece along a first concave surface of the gripping member. A second concave surface disposed on an opposite face of the gripping member presents a reversely-curved configuration. The second concave surface cooperates with a stem which is adapted for selective axial shifting movement. The gripping member is biased toward an open position facilitating installation and removal of the workpiece. A pair of parallel walls are disposed in generally normal relation to the longitudinal axis of the workpiece. These walls advantageously include hardened wear plates which line a guide structure for a cutting blade. A mounting member facilitates securing the device to an associated surface.

  • Patent number: 4781086
Abstract: An adjustable wrench particularly useful to facilitate ease of installation and removal of fluid fittings in and from a fluid system. The wrench includes an elongated handle threadedly cooperating with a body member. The body member has a pair of opposed clamping faces defining a clamping cavity adapted to receive an associated fitting. Relative rotation between the handle and body portion axially advances and retracts a smooth end face of the handle into and out of abutting engagement with a side wall of the fitting. A cutout region in the wrench body is adapted to receive one branch of an associated tee or cross type fluid fitting. The subject wrench readily facilitates clamping engagement of a fitting while coupling nuts are run up on or backed off of the fitting branches by conventional means.
