Patent number: 5331757Abstract: A signholder assembly including a retaining bracket and a pair of clear, relatively flexible planar panels. Each of the panels has a face surface and is substantially identical to one another and adapted to be mated to one another and mounted along a bottom edge in the retaining bracket by the assembly. A U-shaped insert is provided having an upstanding medial wall which forms a pair of channels for receiving the panels, the wall provided with protuberant structure along opposite surfaces thereof arranged to frictional engage against the panels to hold them in place in the channels. The protuberant structure enable varying panel thicknesses to be installed in the channels.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1992Date of Patent: July 26, 1994Assignee: Crown Metal Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Richard C. Patent number: 5058300Abstract: A signholder subassembly for use with a retaining bracket and a pair of clear, relatively flexible planar pieces. Each of the planar pieces has a face surface and is substantially identical to one another and adapted to be mated to one another and mounted along a bottom edge in the retaining bracket by the subassembly. The subassembly includes an insert capable of holding the planar pieces and is mountable within the retaining bracket. A member is included for biasing the planar pieces toward one another to form a bearing surface therebetween and create a gripping action between the face surfaces of the planar pieces when they are mounted within the insert and the retaining bracket. A member also is included for restraining the insert within the retaining bracket.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1989Date of Patent: October 22, 1991Assignee: Crown Metal Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Richard C. Patent number: 4790093Abstract: A two-piece plastic signholder and subassembly therefor. The signholder includes a bracket having a floor and inclined bearing edges which bear against the assembled two substantially identical plastic pieces. The bracket and pieces are designed to provide a bias to ensure a top bearing surface between the upper portions of the two assembled pieces to securely hold signs therebetween. The pieces include positive engagement elongated mating slots and posts along the bottom edge of the pieces, which also include inner and outer inclined or angled bottom edge pieces and the pieces can be curved or warped toward one another to aid in the biasing of the pieces. The pieces alos include a stepped recess and flat support surface in the bottom edge to maintain contact between the bottom edge and the floor of the bracket to resist tipping from side blows.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1987Date of Patent: December 13, 1988Assignee: Crown Metal Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Richard C. Patent number: 4455007Abstract: A hang rail support and bracket is provided to support a hang rail of rectangular cross section which is adapted to be supported in such a manner that other brackets may be secured along the length of the rail and have merchandise hung therefrom in cantilever fashion. The bracket is adapted to be secured to a vertical standard such as the conventional slotted ones and has a vertically extending notch disposed in a laterally offset distal end section fitting the hang rail, and the lateral section is parallel to a lateral side of the hang rail or bar and has a bumper member of yieldable material that presses against a side of the rail to hold the rail firmly in the notch. The distal end section is parallel to and laterally offset from the proximal end section by the length of the lateral section and provides a shape of the bracket that acts to rigidify the structure of the bracket and to stengthen the bracket.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1982Date of Patent: June 19, 1984Assignee: Crown Metal ManufacturingInventors: David S. Patent number: 4443979Abstract: An adapter for enabling a vertical slotted standard in the form of a steel bar to be mounted to a pair of back-to-back assembled sheet metal channel-shaped studs in a wall, the adapter being disposed within the wall and hidden from the exterior of the wall. The exterior covering of the wall comprises aligned adjacent wallboard members whose vertical adjacent edges engage against a pair of forwardly extending entrance flanges for receiving therein the shelf-supporting hooked end brackets which enter and engage within the slots of the standard. The wallboard members are secured to the studs with the same fasteners that connect a pair of wallboard-receiving wings of the adapter to the studs. The invention is concerned with means for anchoring the standard within the adapter and a method of effecting such anchoring during the assembly of the adapter.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1981Date of Patent: April 24, 1984Assignee: Crown Metal Manufacturing CompanyInventors: David Varon, Steven C. Patent number: 4441300Abstract: A bracket retaining and support structure for cooperative engagement with a wall stud and adapted for receipt in passageways disposed thereon of the hook ends of support brackets for shelves or the like. The bracket support structure includes a pair of oppositely disposed elongate extruded metal members having respective matingly engageable tongue and groove portions to enable assembly of the channel members together to form the support structure. An elongate metal bar provided with said passageways along the length thereof is retained by said support structure in a slot formed between said channel members; a pair of closely spaced forwardly extending flanges on the channel members form an entranceway in the support structure opening to the passageways on the metal bar to permit insertion of the hook ends of the support brackets within the passageways.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1978Date of Patent: April 10, 1984Assignee: Crown Metal Manufacturing CompanyInventors: David S. Patent number: 4316547Abstract: A hang rail support and bracket in which the hang rail is of rectangular cross section and is adapted to be supported in such a manner that other brackets may be secured along the length of the rail and have merchandise hung therefrom in cantilever fashion. The support and bracket is adapted to be secured to a vertical standard such as the conventional slotted ones and has a vertically extending notch having a U-shaped liner member or grommet of yieldable but firm material such as plastic seated in the notch. The throat of the liner member or grommet is of a size and configuration firmly to engage a rectangular cross section hang rail pressed into the grommet throat. Through the use of at least a pair of such brackets provided with notches and grommets the hang rail can be supported and prevented from rotating while resisting inadvertent removal and endwise sliding relative to the brackets.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1980Date of Patent: February 23, 1982Assignee: Crown Metal Manufacturing Co.Inventor: David S.
