Abstract: A detachable document-holding device for holding a document at a substantially fixated distance from a lens disposed at a back surface of a portable imaging apparatus. The document-holding device includes a document tray, a sliding interface having a hollow passage, and a mounting-structure and a base. The mounting-structure includes a sliding panel pivotally attached to an attachment panel. The tray and the sliding interface are pivotally interconnected. The base is securely attached to the back surface of the portable imaging apparatus, wherein the mounting-structure is operatively mounted onto the base. The hollow passage fittingly accommodates the sliding panel, facilitating a user to set the distance between the document and the lens. When in operational state, the tray is substantially perpendicular to the optical axis of the lens, wherein an image of the document, placed onto the tray, is reflected towards the lens.

Abstract: An imaging apparatus for imaging a document in an open environment or a closed environment including processor, memory, an imaging device having at least one image sensor and a direct light-source, a bench having an upper surface and a document holding mechanism having at least one paperweight. The paperweights are disposed in respective fitted hollow columns formed in the document holding mechanism, extending generally perpendicular, upwardly from the upper surface of the bench, wherein the respective fitted hollow column facilitates free up and down motion of the paperweight inside, and wherein the document may be pushed underneath said paperweight to thereby flatten the document.

Abstract: A camera system for imaging a document including an enclosed imaging-optical-chamber, at least one camera mounted inside the imaging-optical-chamber and having a lens defining the primary FOV of the camera, at least one light source for illuminating the document; at least one light-occluding structures, wherein each light sources are operatively coupled with a light-occluding structures, a glass-window, wherein the document is operatively disposed on the glass-window, and wherein the glass-window extends the FOV of the camera thereby forming an extended FOV of the camera. The system further includes at least one mirror operatively coupled with at least one of the light sources. Preferably, the light sources are disposed inside the primary FOV of the camera, such that the imaginary light-source of the light source is disposed outside the extended FOV of the camera.

Abstract: An image acquisition apparatus, including a housing, the housing includes an internal space and a substantially transparent surface for supporting a tangible document during an image acquisition operation, a document sensing device for detecting if at least a portion of the transparent surface is covered by the tangible document, the document sensing device including a transparent support structure for supporting at least one edge of the tangible document, a layer of coating configured to reflect light, wherein the layer of coating covering at least a portion of the external surfaces of the transparent support structure, a first light source and a light intensity sensor disposed inside the internal space.

Abstract: A duplex imaging apparatus for imaging at least one side of a document, including a processor and lower and upper imaging devices. Each imaging device includes an optical-chamber, a camera and a light-source-configuration, facilitated to directly illuminate each face of the document from at least two illuminating angles. The lower imaging device is enclosed by a glass-window, wherein the document is operatively disposed on the glass-window. Each of the light source configurations includes at least one cluster of light sources, wherein the clusters of light sources are operated in a preconfigured sequence. Direct illumination forms hotspots in the acquired image frames at preconfigured locations, corresponding to the light sources positioning. The processor is facilitated to cutout preconfigured image frame portions containing the hotspots, forming clean portions of the image frames, and to combine the clean portions to form a clean output image frame.

Abstract: An illumination chamber for illuminating an object with substantially uniform illumination and providing an image of the object, the illumination chamber includes a generally 6-faced polyhedron opaque housing, which encloses a light mixing chamber. The housing includes an object transparent glass sheet, an image transparent glass sheet and at least one light source disposed inside the housing. The object transparent glass sheet is disposed at a first of the two larger faces of the 6-faced polyhedron and image transparent glass sheet is disposed at the second large face of the 6-faced polyhedron, opposing the object glass sheet. The object to be imaged, typically a document, is disposed immediately adjacent to the external surface of the object transparent glass sheet. The image of the objects exits the housing through the image transparent glass sheet.

Abstract: An image acquisition apparatus for acquiring an image of a document including a housing having an internal space, a substantially transparent window, a CCD sensor array, a light source for illuminating the document and an opaque cover device for blocking light from escaping the internal space of the housing through the transparent window. The cover device includes an opaque wall that combined with the document, operationally blocks the escaping of light from the internal space of the housing. The cover device further includes a primary insertion slit, a document removing mechanism and a removal slit for removing a small form document through the removal slit. Optionally, the cover device further includes a second insertion slit for inserting the small form document. The width of the second insertion slit is smaller than the width of the first insertion slit.

Abstract: The present invention provides a unique and novel system for acquiring digital image frames of identification documents such as driver's license, passports, or medical insurance records using a digital camera so as to establish a high resolution image frame and extracting data automatically with machine vision tools so as to acquire accurate data. The present invention teaches also a system that acquires multi-spectral image frames of both sides of the identification document.

Abstract: A system and method for acquiring identification information from each visitor of an event and producing a smart badge that will automatically register him to the event activities. The system comprises a scanning or imaging device, information extraction means and printing means, including label printing and RFID, magnetic and barcode printing means. The system can also read each smart badge issued by wireless means and without the visitor having to actively cooperate and hence, continuously trace any visitor location and his points of interest.

Abstract: A system for imaging a document including an imaging apparatus, which includes a camera positioned inside the imaging apparatus, the camera configured to acquire a plurality of images of a document in front of the camera. The document is place behind a glass window on a wall opposing the camera. The imaging apparatus includes an illumination system which is positioned around the glass window but outside the field of view (FOV) of the camera. The imaging apparatus further includes an opaque cover, which covers the whole glass window area. The cover includes a slit to insert a document to be imaged, a slit to remove the document and a groove that enables a user to move the document with his finger.

Abstract: A system and method for scanning a business card or a driver's license from within MS Outlook directly into the address book of MS Outlook. The system includes a scanning device and a program application that is integrated with MS Outlook. The application controls the card scanner connected to the personal computer, stores the acquired image of the scanned card, extracts the text data and image data using an OCR module, opens a new contact in the MS Outlook address book and inserts the extracted textual and image data into said contact each in its appropriate field.
