Patent number: 5615046Abstract: A stereoscopic viewer includes left and right lenses and sight blocks, all housed in the lightweight frame. A stereoscopic display, such as a computer monitor or a TV, includes left and right stereoscopic central images that are displayed side-by-side on the central portion of the display screen. The left and right central images have center spacings equivalent to normal interpupillary distances. However, the left central image is extended to the left to form a left peripheral zone and the right central image is extended to the right to form a right peripheral zone. A user employing the viewer integrates the central stereoscopic views with the left and right peripheral zones to form an apparent 3-dimensional image. Additional two-dimensional zones may be established outside of the stereoscopic central images for items such as menus, windows, tool icons, etc.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1995Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Assignee: Cyber Scientific Inc.Inventor: Ian R. Patent number: 5185728Abstract: An ultrasonic transducer is described that comprises an oscillatory element (e.g., piezoelectric or electrostatic) having a frequency of oscillation in the ultrasonic region. The transducer includes a conical diaphragm connected at its apex to the center of the oscillatory element. The diaphragm has a rim which defines a concave opening and is responsive to an actuation of the oscillatory element to generate a plane wave in the direction of the concave opening. A faceplate having a small aperture abuts the rim of the conical diaphragm. The diaphragm is concentrically positioned with respect to the aperture and is bonded to the faceplate by a flexible adhesive. An induced plane wave is thereby diffracted by the aperturre and exits therefrom with a substantially omnidirectional beam pattern.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1992Date of Patent: February 9, 1993Assignee: Cyber ScientificInventor: Ian R. Patent number: 5144594Abstract: An acoustic mouse system is described that controls indications on an X-Y surface of the face of a display. The system comprises a support for holding at least three acoustic receivers in an x-y plane, and a hand movable acoustic transmitter that is movable both parallel to the x-y plane and in a z direction perpendicular to the x-y plane. The transmitter generates periodic acoustic oscillations in the direction of the support and its receivers. Detection circuitry, responsive to signals from the acoustic receivers, provides signals indicative of the absolute position of the acoustic transmitter in the x-y plane. A processor is responsive to the signals from the detection circuitry to provide absolute position signals to the display, whereby the display responds by moving an indication to a corresponding position on the X-Y surface of the display face.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1991Date of Patent: September 1, 1992Assignee: Cyber ScientificInventor: Ian R. Patent number: 5073878Abstract: A driver circuit for an acoustic transducer includes a voltage regulator that provides a regulated DC output level for a high value load impedance and when the load impedance falls to a low value, its DC output exhibits a substantially reduced level. A transformer is connected between the voltage regulator and the acoustic transducer. A switching circuit is connected to the transformer and is responsive to a leading edge of a pulse input signal to reflect a low value impedance through the transformer to the voltage regulator. The switching circuit is further responsive to a lagging edge of a pulse input signal to reflect a high value impedance to the voltage regulator. A capacitive reactance circuit is coupled to the transformer and is responsive to the switching circuit reflecting a low value impedance to manifest a reduced charge state.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1990Date of Patent: December 17, 1991Assignee: Cyber ScientificInventor: Ian R. Patent number: 5046053Abstract: An acoustic signal receiving and processing circuit provides an output signal that enables a distance to be determined between a transmitter and a sensor. The circuit comprises a sensor which receives both noise and acoustic position signals, the acoustic signals arriving after a time delay indicative of distance between the signal's transmitter and a sensor. A level control circuit provides a plurality of output potentials, one of which is a ramp signal and another is a neutral voltage, the ramp signal produced in response to a start signal manifestation. A comparator circuit, has a pair of inputs connected to the level control and sensor circuits, respectively. The comparator circuit produces a first output signal in response to a potential on one of its inputs exceeding a potential on another of its inputs, i.e. when a voltage transition of a received acoustic signal initially passes a voltage manifested by the ramp signal.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1990Date of Patent: September 3, 1991Assignee: Cyber ScientificInventor: Ian R.
