Patent number: 5881493Abstract: A foam sprayer apparatus comprises a container and a manual air pump carried by the container. The pump is operable to manually pump air into the container and create an air head therein. A discharge channel establishes fluid communication between the interior and exterior of the container. The channel contains an air opening located inside the tank and above a level to which a supply of foaming composition is to be filled. An inlet of the discharge channel is located below the level to which a supply of foaming composition is to be filled. A foaming chamber is also included for causing turbulence in a fluid received from the discharge channel. A discharge valve controls the flow of fluid through the discharge channel and foaming chamber. When the valve is open, fluid flows from the discharge channel to the foaming chamber, and from the foaming chamber to a nozzle. The nozzle is in fluid communication with the outlet of the foaming chamber.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1995Date of Patent: March 16, 1999Assignee: D. B. Smith & Co. Patent number: 5857618Abstract: An improved backpack sprayer, comprising a supply tank, an expandable accumulator, a pump mechanism, an intake valve, a discharge valve, and a spray wand with a nozzle. The supply tank is designed to hold fluids, such as insecticides, herbicides, water sealants, etc. The expandable accumulator is preferably an elastomeric bladder, the function of which is to accumulate fluid from the supply tank under pressure. The volume of the bladder expands as pressurized fluid enters from the pump mechanism. As with most backpack sprayers, the pump mechanism is positioned adjacent to the bottom of the supply tank and is in fluid communication with the tank. The function of the pump mechanism is to pump fluid from the supply tank into the bladder. An intake valve, associated with an inlet opening of the bladder, enables a unidirectional flow of liquid from the pump to the bladder. Discharge of fluid from the bladder also occurs through the inlet opening upon the opening of a discharge valve.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1997Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: D.B. Discharge of fluid from the bladder also occurs through the inlet opening upon the opening of a discharge valve. The discharge valve is normally closed to permit the bladder to accumulate a desired quantity of fluid.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1995Date of Patent: September 30, 1997Assignee: D.B. Patent number: 5115947Abstract: A portable, collapsible water tank suitable for use in combatting forest fires and the like that is manufactured from a flaccid synthetic material or a coated fabric which is capable of being ultrasonically welded. The bag is preferably made from a single sheet of material that is folded back upon itself to form a bag having uniformly sized front and rear panels. A filler assembly is mounted in the upper part of the front panel while a quick disconnect coupler is mounted in the lower part of the bag. The edge seams between the panel are welded closed using ultrasonic welding techniques. Radially extended skirts are provided about the bag outside of the seam areas and grommets are mounted within the skirts upon which shoulder straps and handles are either permanently removably secured. A hand-grip is welded to the front face of the tank beneath the filler assembly.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1989Date of Patent: May 26, 1992Assignee: D. B. Smith & Co., Inc.Inventors: William J.
