  • Patent number: 5488563
Abstract: A mass memory stores a data base representing at least a substantial part of the terrestrial globe, in accordance with a grid configuration on several levels, said grid configuration being in particular more precise in the vicinity of an airport. Status indications are received representing the position of the aircraft with two horizontal components, and the altitude, and the velocity and acceleration vectors of the aircraft, as well as control indications coming from the flight deck. In accordance with the horizontal components of the position of the aircraft, a temporary local map is transferred into a fast access memory, on the basis of which map, an altitude envelope of the terrain is established in the zone where the aircraft is travelling. Anticollision processing make it possible to establish an alarm if the relation between a protection field and the altitude envelope meets a first condition which is defined at least partly by the control indications.

  • Patent number: 5453746
Abstract: A jettisonable means comprises means with a travelling-wave tube for emitting electromagnetic waves. It forms part of an assembly having external power supply means for supplying the filament of the travelling-wave tube. The external power supply means temporarily supplies the filament of the travelling-wave tube to heat it to its nominal temperature before jettisoning, whilst, at the moment of jettisoning, the external power supply means are disconnected. This enables a temperature appropriate to the operation of the travelling-wave tube to be provided temporarily, after the jettisoning.

  • Patent number: 5428600
Abstract: A relay satellite receives, from stations on the ground, modulated high-frequency signals situated in two different frequency bands. One of the modulations is narrow band and the other broad band. The satellite retransmits a multiplexed signal resulting from the phase modulation, of a sub-carrier consisting of the signal modulated by the narrow band modulation. The phase modulation is performed using signals drawn from the signals that carry the broad-band modulation. The user stations receive this multiplexed signal and extract therefrom, by filtering, the narrow band modulated sub-carrier, which can be used for phase-demodulating the multiplexed signal in order to recover signals which carry the broad-band modulation.

  • Patent number: 5418840
Abstract: A specific module of a communications network comprises (i) first and second telephone interface mechanisms respectively connected to telephone channels, (ii) interconnection mechanisms between these first and second interfaces, and (iii) a processing mechanism. In response to a request for a telephone call from a telephone set calling a call (dialing) number assigned to a portable handset, the call request being received at one of the first interfaces, an attempt is made to establish, in addition to the first telephone connection from the calling set to said first telephone interface, a second telephone connection from the portable handset to one of the second telephone interfaces in accordance with predetermined conditions, and the interconnection of the first and second interfaces concerned is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5367125
Abstract: An insulating electrical feed-through connector extending through a wall of aluminum is obtained by using a sintered sleeve comprising phosphate glass in which a conductive pin is inserted. The sleeve is raised to a firing temperature in excess of the dilatometric softening temperature of the vitreous material in the presence of a first effective quantity of alumina between the sleeve and the wall and of a second effective quantity of nickel oxide between the sleeve and the pin, which makes it possible to achieve a simultaneous and direct hermetic sealing of the sleeve to the wall and of the pin to the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5174561
Abstract: A central roller (70) is driven into constant motion by a toothed belt (85) and by drive rollers (88, 89.) A moving element comprising a bracket (92) bearing an idle roller (90) that is elastically biased toward the central roller is mounted on the shaft (7) of the central roller, and this assembly is separately driven by the rollers (78, 79), by a toothed belt (75) and a drive system (MC, 77).
