Abstract: A flexible polymeric container for storing and dispensing liquids includes a first sidewall and a second sidewall connected together to define a fluid chamber therebetween. The first sidewall and the second sidewall each have an inner surface facing the fluid chamber and an opposed outer surface. A fitment is attached to an outer surface of one of the first sidewall or the second sidewall. The fitment has an opening therethrough which has an axis substantially perpendicular to the outer surface. A plurality of objects on the inner surface of one of the first sidewall or the second sidewall defines a plurality of pathways having at least a first pathway and a second pathway intersecting one another.

Abstract: An improved screw-on assembly for coupling line connectors with spouts has been invented. The invention can be used with bag-in-box packaging or with a variety of other applications requiring fluid coupling. In one embodiment, threading is accomplished by mating internal threads on a line connector with flexible tabs located on the spout. Deformation of the tabs during threading provides a restorative force that stabilizes the assembly during threading. Cooperation of the deformable tabs with structures near the end of the thread provides for self-locking of the assembly. In addition, the tabs are situated on a flange, providing compatibility of the present invention with prior art line connectors.

Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus for filling a container such as a plastic bag with product. The apparatus comprises a fill valve and a chamber formed as an integral unit, in which during a filling operation a container with a cap is in place is offered up to and placed in the bag by gripping devices or jaws, the cap is removed by a capper mechanism the bag is filled with product, and the cap is replaced, all the flow paths and surfaces being sterilised by steam during the filling operation.

Abstract: A hangable bag used for containing and dispensing product including a first panel and a second panel heat sealed together at adjacent seal areas to form an interior compartment therebetween. A spout is sealed to the first panel to provide access to the interior compartment for filling and dispensing product from the bag. A first of the seal areas forms a handle region with an aperture therethrough, and has a substantially greater width than the other seal areas to provide increased strength and rigidity to the handle region of the hangable bag.

Abstract: There is shown respectively the other and the one part of a set of parts which when assembled provides a transfer apparatus for transferring flowable material such as food or drink powder, or a liquid such as a drinks concentrate, from a source thereof (not shown) in the form of a plastic bag of a gauge which is pierceable. That bag is usually held in a container such as a cardboard box. The bag and its contents are sterilised and delivered sterile to a point of use, where the bag is pierced to effect transfer. To effect such transfer, the one part, which is an adapter plug is secured to a gland which is part of the bag, though in an alternative the one part may itself be a gland integral with the bag. The other part is tubular and hollow, and has an internal thread in a lower (as viewed) part separated by a shoulder from an upper (as viewed) unthreaded tubular part which has a gland for attachment to another filament, such as a tube (not shown).

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sterile dispensing of product from an aseptic source is described. There is provided a valve device adapted for mounting at the outlet of the source, mounting the valve device on the outlet, providing sterilizing medium and sterilizing the outlet and valve with the medium prior to dispensing the product. There is provided a sterilizing chamber between a valve member and the valve device for continuously sterilizing part of the valve member in the chamber while product delivery occurs to create an aseptic barrier between the product and the environment.

Abstract: An insert for a collapsible container having an opening. The insert includes a first fluid passage defining member having a generally U-shaped lateral cross-section. This member extends from the opening inwardly of the container and is in fluid communication with the opening. The insert also includes a second fluid passage defining member having a generally U-shaped lateral cross-section. The second member extends transversely from the first member and is in fluid communication therewith.
