  • Publication number: 20190085835
Abstract: Start-stop engine systems for a turbocharged engine have a bypass with fluid flow from upstream of the compressor or downstream of the compressor to a position between the throttle and the engine, or from between the compressor and throttle to a position upstream of the compressor with a Venturi device in the bypass. A device requiring vacuum is in fluid communication with a suction port of the Venturi device. An electronic vacuum pump is added that is in fluid communication with the device requiring vacuum or with the Venturi device. The electronic vacuum pump is operated during a stop condition of the start-stop engine to replace the vacuum generated by the Venturi device or to provide a pressure drop across the Venturi device so the Venturi device continues to generate vacuum for the device requiring vacuum.

Abstract: An aspirator for creating vacuum is disclosed that includes a housing defining a fluid passageway with a first tapering portion and a second tapering portion. Each tapering portion has a larger internal opening and a smaller internal opening, the smaller openings facing one another. The aspirator includes a gate positioned between and in fluid communication with the first and second tapering portions, the gate having a first Venturi tube with a Venturi opening creating vacuum when fluid flows in a direction and a second Venturi tube with a Venturi opening that creates vacuum when fluid flows in the opposite direction. The Venturi openings are in fluid communication with a suction port, and the first and second Venturi tubes may provide different mass flow rates through the aspirator. An engine system having an aspirator with a gate having a first bore and a second bore and an actuator is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10203025
Abstract: Zed-type belt tensioners are described that include an arm having a first end rotatable about a first axis to move a second end of the arm into engagement with a belt, a tensioner component coupled to the first end of the arm, and a supplemental force element positioned between the arm and the tensioner component. The second end of the arm while tensioning a belt experiences a hub load applied by the belt and the supplemental force element is positioned at a point to apply a force that counteracts the hub load thereby reducing cocking of the arm. Also described herein are methods of counteracting the hub load using such belt tensioners and methods of assembly of such belt tensioners.

  • Patent number: 10190654
Abstract: Torsional vibration dampers for FEADs are disclosed that include a hub having a sleeve defining a bore for receiving a shaft and an outer annular ring spaced radially outward from the sleeve, thereby defining an annular receptacle, a component for rotation with the hub having an inner annular ring disposed between the sleeve and the outer annular ring of the hub, and an annular cartridge seated in the annular receptacle between the inner annular ring of the component for rotation with the hub and the sleeve or outer annular ring of the hub. The annular cartridge defines a first annular groove having a generally C-shaped or U-shaped cross-sectional profile open radially outward, and has a first elastomer member seated therein in compression, thereby operatively coupling the component for rotation with the hub to the hub. The component may be a pulley body or an inertia member.

  • Patent number: 10132424
Abstract: A variable flow valve assembly is disclosed, and includes a main body, a piston, a position sensor, a controller, a solenoid, and a cover. The main body defines a chamber, an inlet port, an outlet port, and a wall located between the inlet port and the outlet port. The wall defines a metering orifice for selectively allowing a medium to flow from the inlet port to the outlet port. The chamber of the main body includes a pressurized chamber. The piston is moveable within the chamber of the main body in a plurality of partially open positions to vary the amount of medium flowing through the modulation orifice. The piston separates the pressurized chamber from the inlet port. The position sensor determines the position of the piston within the chamber of the main body, and the controller is in signal communication with the position sensor.

  • Publication number: 20180283578
Abstract: Check valves are disclosed and include a housing defining an internal cavity having a first seat and a second seat, and a seal member within the internal cavity translatable between a closed position against the first seat and an open position against the second seat. The second seat has a middle axis transverse to a plane of a longitudinal cross-section of the housing and has a shortest finger positioned to either the left or to the right of the middle axis. The seal member is seatable against the second seat at an angle or in a deflected position against the plurality of fingers, thereby defining a longer distance of travel to reach the closed position for a portion of the check valve disc that is associated with the position of the shortest finger relative to other portions of the check valve disc.
