    Abstract: A valve supports a thermal sensing apparatus within an outlet nozzle of a reaction vessel. The valve includes a head with a socket closed by a disc and a stem providing a bore communicating with the socket and a measuring end defined by the disc. The sensing element of the sensing apparatus is located to a sensing position at the measuring end of the valve for fast response to a thermal change in the contents within the vessel. Substantially any form of sensing element may be incorporated in the valve and the sensing element is spring biased toward the measuring end.

    Abstract: An air spring assembly is connected to a member in the form of a cover, door or panel for movement between a position at which the member closes an opening and a position at which the member is removed from the opening. The member is movable between limit positions and the air spring assembly assists in movement. If any portion of the original charge attained by the air spring is lost due to leakage, the air spring assembly is automatically charged during movements of the member so that a piston rod is able to exert a predetermined force on the member.

    Abstract: The invention relates to an assembly and structure for exerting a constant force on a pivot pin supporting a movable component of a hinge for elevating the axis about which the movable component pivots. The movable component connected between the pivot pin and a cover, so elevated and maintained elevated during operative movements of the cover, permits movements of the cover in opening and closing the entry through a nozzle of a reactor, particularly a glass-lined reactor, into the interior in a manner whereby any gasket or sealing structure disposed either around the cover or the nozzle may be protected from damage. The invention, also, relates to structure for mounting the assembly and structure, which may include additional structure for assist in opening and closing the cover, to a stationary component of the hinge.

    Abstract: Breaks in the lining of a protectively lined reactor vessel are repaired without introducing unwanted electrical paths through the vessel. Specifically, the breaks are repaired using a plug comprising an insulated anchor stud anchored into the portion of the metal support wall underlying the break; a sealing gasket disposed on the portion of the protective lining surrounding the break; a washer disposed outside the sealing gasket; and a clamping arrangement mechanically coupling the washer and the anchor stud for clamping the gasket onto the protective lining throughout a path surrounding the break.
