Patent number: 4891213Abstract: Nail enamel compositions, particularly of the nitrocellulose type, have added a small amount of microcrystalline cellulose powder. When the compositions are applied to the nails, the microcrystalline cellulose particles act in lieu of long thin fibers to reinforce and strengthen the enamel coating while some of the particles tend to settle into the valleys between the nail ridges to smooth out the surface of the nails. These enamel compositions can be used without prior application of a filler coat to give a smooth, glossy, reinforced finish to the nails with no fibers visible.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1986Date of Patent: January 2, 1990Assignee: Del Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Harry W. Gordon, Kenneth Chung

Patent number: 4644966Abstract: A fingernail treatment arrangement, especially a nail polish removal arrangement, includes a vessel which is closable by a lid and which includes a circumferential wall and a bottom wall which together bound an internal chamber. A porous body is so held in the internal chamber as to be inwardly spaced from the circumferential wall and to form a gap therewith. The porous body has a central through bore which extends through the porous body all the way to the bottom wall. The bottom wall has a downward slope in the radially outward direction to form a moat into which the porous body dips. The porous body is held in the aforementioned position either by a resilient spring clip which engages the same and braces itself against a neck portion of the vessel, or by ultrasonically or thermally welded formations connecting the porous body to the bottom wall, or in both ways.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1984Date of Patent: February 24, 1987Assignee: Del Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Luigi M. Patent number: 4612193Abstract: Ointment compositions for the treatment of styes and related infectious conditions of the eyelid. The ointments contain an emollient base, including white petrolatum, mineral oil and microcrystalline wax, as well as boric acid, wheat germ oil and mercuric oxide, the concentration of boric acid in the ointment is about 2-10% by weight, as is the concentration of the wheat germ oil, while the mercuric oxide is present in a concentration of about 1-1.2% by weight. The wheat germ oil enhances the anti-bacterial potency of the mercuric oxide, and the boric acid stabilizes the mercuric oxide in the presence of the wheat germ oil to prevent discoloration of the ointment.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1985Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Del Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Harry W. Patent number: 4508225Abstract: A display package for a container including a receptacle having an open end and a cap mounted on the open end and closing the same, particularly for a container containing a cosmetic substance, includes a backing card, a first mounting part secured to the backing part and embracing that end of the receptacle which is remote from the cap in a cup-like fashion to prevent movement of the container relative to the backing card in one axial direction as well as radially, and a second mounting part which embraces the container at the elevation of the cap and has a locking surface which engages a retaining surface of the cap that is situated a different distance from the axis of the container than the remainder of the periphery of the cap. The retaining surface may be flat and form a recessed formation in the cap, in which case the locking surface interferes with turning of the cap relative to the receptacle about the central axis of the container.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1983Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: Del Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Luigi M. Patent number: 4097589Abstract: A liquid nail polish which imparts improved flexural strength to the human nail and inhibits splitting when applied thereto as a coating. The nail polish formulation is characterized by the inclusion therein, as a dissolved component, of a small but effective amount of a terpolymer comprising a copolyamide consisting essentially of recurring units of equimolecular proportions of caprolactam, laurolactam and hexamethylene diamine adipate. Typically, said terpolymer is first dissolved in a mixture of trichloroethane and ethyl alcohol, and this liquid solution is added in a small quantity to a stock liquid nail polish formulation so that a final formulation containing a small but effective amount of said dissolved terpolymer is produced, e.g. a formulation containing in the range of about 0.001 to 0.1% by weight of said dissolved terpolymer.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1977Date of Patent: June 27, 1978Assignee: Del Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Albert Shansky
