Patents Assigned to Delphi Technologies Holding S.arl
  • Patent number: 7799260
Abstract: A method of poling a ferroelectric sample suitable for use in a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine, the method comprising providing a ferroelectric sample having a stack of ferroelectric layers, wherein adjacent layers are separated by internal electrodes, forming a first group and a second group of electrodes; applying a multiaxial pressure to the ferroelectric sample; and generating an electric field between the first and second group of electrodes to pole the ferroelectric sample. The multiaxial pressure is ideally applied by means of a fluid, and the fluid may be an dielectric fluid or fuel.

  • Patent number: 7789062
Abstract: An injection nozzle for a compression ignition internal combustion engine, the injection nozzle comprising: a nozzle body provided with a bore, within which a unitary valve needle is movable along a primary valve needle axis, the valve needle being engageable with a valve seating defined by the bore to control fuel delivery through first and second outlets, and including a first valve region, a second valve region and a first seat region defined by a transition between the first and second valve regions that seats against the valve seating when the nozzle is in a non-injecting state, wherein the valve needle comprises a third valve region, a relieved region defined by a transition between said second and third valve regions, the relieved region defining a first exit volume between the valve needle and the bore adjacent to the first outlet when the valve needle is lifted from the valve seating into an injecting state, and a fourth valve region having at least a part in closer proximity to the bore than said re

  • Patent number: 7750538
Abstract: A piezoelectric actuator for use in a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine, the actuator comprising a stack of ferroelectric layers; an encapsulation for protecting the stack from the ingress of liquid; and oxygenation means for providing oxygen to the ferroelectric layers, the means positioned between the encapsulation and stack. The oxygenation means is preferably impregnated in a fabric which forms a layer between the encapsulation and the stack.

  • Patent number: 7744017
Abstract: An injection nozzle for an internal combustion engine comprising a nozzle body defining a seating surface and having at least one first nozzle outlet and a valve member received within the nozzle body and engageable with an external seating defined by the seating surface so as to control fuel injection through the at least one first nozzle outlet. The valve member is provided with a bore having an internal bore surface and an insert is received within the bore. The insert includes a part-spherical head which spans an internal diameter of the bore so as to maintain contact with an internal surface of the bore as the valve member moves, in use, so as to guide movement of the valve member. The part-spherical head also includes a surface which defines an internal seating for the valve member.
