    Abstract: A notebook having an internal easel stand. The notebook can be a looseleaf notebook. The notebook can be converted to an easel stand holding the sheets of paper in an upright position. The notebook has a flat easel panel attached to a portion of the inside surface of the notebook cover. When the notebook cover to which the easel panel is attached is flexed along a bendline running across the cover, the easel panel juts into the interior of the notebook. The easel panel is held in place in an upright position by a gripping device attached to inside surface of the cover.

    Abstract: A tab for adhesively securing and binding articles within looseleaf binders and like devices, where such articles cannot be conveniently provided with apparatus for engagement by the binder rings. The tab includes a central, apertured portion advantageously comprising bilaterally symmetric apertured sections separated by a central fold line, and wing portions, all adhesive-coated. The tab is prepared for use by folding the respective halves of the central tab portion against each other with apertures aligned. The tab may then be inserted in a binder ring, and the wings of the tab adhesively secured to the article to be bound. Advantageously a plurallity of such tabs are included in a tab stock, such tab stock including an adhesive coated tab substrate (preferably transparent) and backing sheet.

    Abstract: A medium formed by a mixture of polymeric binder with conductive metal and either semiconductive particles or galvanic couple alloy particles that can be coated or printed on a substrate to convert electromagnetic radiation to heat without arcing and produce increase heating of foods. Conversion efficiency can be controlled by the choice, thickness, pattern and amount of materials used in the medium. The medium can be formulated to be used repeatedly without burn out or can be formulated to be used only once after which it becomes microwave inert. The conductive particles are typically aluminum, copper, zinc and nickel; the semiconductive particles are typically carbon, titanium carbide, silicon carbide and zinc oxide; and the galvanic couple alloy particles are typically aluminum-nickel alloy, aluminum-cobalt alloy and aluminum-copper alloy.

The coating eliminates the need to use heat fusing to fix the transferred toned image to the substrate. The coating is composed of pressure sensitive polymeric binder material and particulate fillers. The polymeric binder has a glass transition temperature less than 20.degree. C. preferably a glass transition temperature between -10.degree. C. and +10.degree. C. The fillers include a polymeric filler, typically a polyethylene wax or a polyethylene/polytetrafluoroethylene wax mixture and a mineral filler, typically particulate silicon dioxide.

    Abstract: An elongated arch forming member or bar supported upon a horizontal stacking station base by a movable support for permitting the stack to be lowered as the weight of the of sheets over the arch forming member increases. The arch forming member supports the sheets only at centralized portions thereof for permitting edge portions of the sheets to be pulled downwardly by gravity to form an arch, in the stack of sheets, transverse to the direction of feed of the sheets from a printer or source machine into a receptor station. The arch forming member is oriented parallel to opposite edges of the sheets and causes an angle of at least 15.degree. to be produced between the edge portions of the sheets and the horizontal plane of the base.

    Abstract: An improved release system for heat transferable laminates wherein a transferable substrate which contains a design layer is transferred from a carrier web onto an article such as a plastic bottle or container upon application of heat and pressure. The carrier web includes a nonwax polyethylene layer.The improved release system includes a polyethylene layer portion of the carrier web in contact with and adhered to a nonwax transfer layer portion of the transferable substrate. The transferable substrate including the ink design layer transfers to the article upon application of heat to the carrier while the article contacts the laminate. The transferred substrate on the article is clear and exhibits improved scuff and abrasion resistance. The nonwax transfer layer portion of the transferable substrate advantageously contains an oil which becomes activated upon application of heat to promote release of the transferable substrate from the carrier web to the article.

    Abstract: A method and article providing different images from differing viewing angles. The image side of a lenticular sheet is printed with radiation curable inks and cured using a collimated radiation source located at a viewer position with respect to the lenticular surface. Uncured ink is removed from the printed surface, and the resulting clear region of the imaging surface may be processed further in a variety of ways. The clear region may be left unprinted, or printed with a second image different from the first, or a stereoscopic image that combines with its pre-printed mate to form a three dimensional image. The clear region also may be vacuum metallized or chemically plated to form a highly reflective surface.

    Abstract: Cover folders for permanently binding a stack of paper sheets without the use of fasteners. The cover folder has a binder spline which contains a quick drying adhesive which is protected by a removable protective film. The film is removed just prior to use to expose the adhesive. The cover folder allows for quick permanent binding of the stack of paper sheets which are pressed into contact with the adhesive. In alternative embodiments the adhesive may be applied directly to the binder spline from a dispenser and the stack of sheets then inserted in the spline. The dispenser may be in the form of a squeezable tube or pouch positioned in the binder spline. As the tube or pouch is pulled it ruptures, releasing adhesive into the spline channel.

    Abstract: A locking loose-leaf binder mechanism which has a curved housing retaining two hookplates, to which binder rings are attached. A control slide attached to each end of the housing includes one or two cam surfaces to engage the hookplates. In an embodiment incorporating two cam surfaces, one cam surface locks the binder rings in a closed position when the slides are fully retracted into the coverplate, and a second cam surface similarly locks the rings when the slides are fully extended from the coverplate. When the slides are neither fully extended nor retracted, the cam surfaces are in a neutral position and the rings may be opened. In further embodiments of the invention, a single cam surface may be employed, either to lock the rings when the slides are fully extended, or fully retracted. Each control slide end further includes a specially formed hanger tab to suspend the binder on a file-frame when the control slides are fully extended.

The charged particle generator may include only the driver and control electrodes, or may further include screen electrodes to regulate the extraction of charged particles.

    Abstract: A method for decoration of paper of plastic sheeting and other substrates, involving a novel technique for coating and embossing the substrate. The paper or plastic sheeting is supplied with a coating of thermosensitive material, as by extrusion. The coated sheet is heated to adequately soften the coating, such as by use of a heated cylinder, and remote heat sources such as infrared heaters. The softened sheet surface is then decorated using an embossing member, to provide a diffraction pattern or hologram. Use of an embossment pattern of lesser depth than the surface roughness of the sheet before embossing provides attractive decorative patterns.

    Abstract: Apparatus for collecting tickets cut from ticket stock, and for stacking these tickets in a horizontal array. Tickets are collected and oriented to stacking position by a vacuum transport belt assembly, and uniformly aligned by a horizontal stacker. The transport assembly is mounted on a housing which includes a vacuum drum to maintain ticket engagement with the transport belts, as the belts traverse a path having a horizontal to vertical orientation about the top and front of the housing. The stacker is mounted perpendicular to the front base of the housing and incorporates a stacking surface of rollers extending the length of, and parallel to the base of a side plate. The rollers are driven in a direction which, advantageously, positions tickets which may be of varying length against the side plate. Stacker infeed disks are mounted on the transport terminus roller in a unitary arrangement which both releases tickets from the transport and feeds tickets to the stacker, to improve processing efficiency.

    Abstract: A metallized laminate and process of manufacture wherein a metallic layer or underlying ink layer appears in a pattern on the laminate. The method in a specific embodiment involves the steps of forming a laminate by coating a heat stable release coat onto a carrier sheet; coating an ink layer in a pattern on the heat stable release coating so that at least portions of the release coat remain uncovered with ink, and applying a metallic layer over the release coat so that at least a portion of the metallic layer is in direct contact with and adheres directly to the release coat. Portions of the metallic layer may be removed by an etchant. A heat activatable adhesive layer is applied over the metallic layer. The laminate so formed is heat transferable from the carrier sheet to an article.
