    Abstract: A two-ply cover for a writing tablet is formed by a unitary die-cut blank of sheet material having an inner panel and an outer panel folded approximately along a medial fold line and sealed at their outer edges to form a pocket therebetween. The inner edge portions of the two cover panels are adhesively bonded to the back, upper edge portion of the tablet. The bonded edge portion of the outer panel corresponds to the width of the cover while the bonded edge portion of the inner panel consists of a tab substantially narrower than the cover. The tab and a fractional part of the outer panel's bonded edge portion are superposed with an adhesiver interface between the back of the writing tablet and the inner surface of the tab and the edge portions of the outer panel that are not coextensive with the tab.

    Abstract: Loose-leaf binder cover has a unitary web of thermoplastic sheet material wrapped about and adhesively bonded to the opposite surfaces of a plurality of stiffener panel inserts with the longitudinal side edge of the sheet material being overlapped. The panels include a back panel and a pair of rectangular cover panels laterally spaced apart, one from the others. The upper and lower edges of the binder consist of portions of the sheet material turned over the edges of the panel inserts. The other edge portions of the sheet material disposed about the inserts are welded together to fully encase the panel inserts within the sheet material. At locations between adjacent inserts, opposed portions of the sheet material are also welded together to provide hinge lines for the binder between the back panel and cover panels thereof. The method of manufacturing the above described loose-leaf binder cover is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A ring binder cover is composed of a pair of thermoplastic sheets superimposed in edge-to-edge relation with stiffener insert panels disposed therebetween. The inner edges of the insert panels are spaced apart a distance which is approximately the width of the back panel and hinged portions of the binder. The peripheral edge portions of the two thermoplastic sheets are sealed together and provide a sealed envelope for the stiffener inserts which are disposed therebetween and define semi-rigid back and front cover panels of the binder. A discrete, semi-rigid spine is affixed to the outer surface of the cover in the area between the inner edges of the inserts. The spine has a width less than the distance between the inserts and together define hinges for the binder covers. The spine is composed of a stiffening insert panel encased within a thermoplastic sheath material and a ring mechanism is affixed on the inner surface of the cover opposite the spine.

    Abstract: Easel type ring binder includes a generally U-shaped support member with parallel leg portions slidably fitted into tubular sheaths disposed along the opposite side edges of the ring mechanism of the binder. Each leg of the support member is hinged at corresponding points intermediate its opposite ends for pivotable movement of the outer end of the support member to a binder support position in which the outer portion of the support member is disposed at an acute interior angle relative to the inner portion thereof. The sheaths are slotted to provide stops and the legs include protections engageable with the stops to limit the withdrawal of the legs from within said sheaths.

    Abstract: A loose leaf presentation folder which has an outer cover with front and rear panels pivotable about a hinge line and an inner binder strip, which may either be a discrete component or part of the cover, includes a pair of narrow panels pivotable about a fold line. If discrete, the strip is affixed within the outer cover with its fold line superimposed on the hinge line of the cover. The opposed outer edge portions of the binder strip are provided with a plurality of transversely-spaced, metallic tabs. The binder strip and the tabs, disposed along one edge thereof, are each provided with a hole therethrough and along the other edge of the binder strip, each of the tabs includes elongated prongs which are bendable to fit through the hole in the opposite edge of the binder strip.

    Abstract: An expandable, multi-pocket envelope is disclosed which is formed by die-cutting, scoring and folding a unitary blank. The blank is formed from a resiliently flexible sheet material and includes a front, back and two intermediate panels. The panels are all foldable in superposed relation about spaced, parallel crease lines. The outer edge of one intermediate panel is cut to include an index tab. A slot is provided between the opposed adjacent edges of the front panel and the other intermediate panel and each of these opposed edges is cut to include an index tab. Inwardly foldable glue bearing panels are provided along the side edge portions of said blank and a closure flap is disposed on the outer end edge of the back panel.

    Abstract: Ring mechanism for loose leaf binders, and method of manufacture therefor, which has actuating or booster levers which serve both to open and close the rings. Mating ring segments or portions are affixed at corresponding spaced locations to a pair of metallic rods or rails. The outer ends of the rods of oval cross section include crank arm portions, with flattened tangs at the terminal ends thereof formed during fabrication on a rail of continuous length which is then severed to provide identical rail and ring segment components. The rail and ring components are then assembled in parallel relation within the inturned edge channels of a spring metal cover plate or case of arcuate cross section which is tensioned to hold the ring segments in closed relation. Each of the booster levers is slotted to engage opposite surfaces of the tangs for pivoting the rods about their longitudinal axes in response to pivotal movement of the booster levers whereby the rings are selectively opened and closed by said levers.

    Abstract: Improved spiral bound notebook and folder construction is disclosed which is formed from an integral blank of flexible sheet material. The folder includes a pair of hingedly interconnected opposed cover panels, a pocket-forming panel hingedly connected along an edge of one of the cover panels and a closure flap hingedly extending from the outer edge of the other cover panel. The pocket forming panel includes one edge portion which is adapted to be folded in superposed relation along one side of the hinge line which interconnects the two cover panels. The folder also includes another flap portion which overlays the other side of the hinge line. The folder is punched to provide wire holes on opposite sides of said hinge line through the cover panels, superposed edge portion of the pocket forming panel and the other flap portion of the folder.

    Abstract: A filing unit for storage and retrieval of magnetic recording disks is disclosed. The unit includes a plurality of pockets or storage panels which can be removably stored in a modular holder and the holder itself can be combined with various other filing components, such as a storage binder having front and rear covers or a desk-top filing stand. In the preferred embodiment, the pocket is carried by a file bar affixed along one edge thereof. The holder includes a plurality of parallel channels each adapted to pivotally receive the file bar of a storage panel. Each channel includes retaining lugs which straddle the channel and are flexible to permit snap-insertion and removal of the bar from the holder.
