Abstract: A measuring instrument (2) for use during an orthopaedic surgical procedure to measure first and second distances from a reference point on a bone to first and second measurement points respectively. The measuring instrument has a first scale (24) for displaying the first distance and a second scale (28) for displaying the second distance. It includes a mask (26) which can be positioned against the second scale after the first distance has been measured in a position that is selected relative to the second scale dependent on the measured first distance, to restrict the length of the second scale that is visible to the user.
Abstract: A cotyloid implant including a screwable cup receiving an articular insert. The cup is provided with screwing elements (11) on the periphery thereof and more particularly in the equatorial area (2) thereof, the elements being used to penetrate the bone material of the acetabular cup during screwing. The cup includes an osteointegration-facilitating coating such as a selective calcium hydroxyapatite coating. The coating (16) is a thick coating on the convex parts of the outer surface of the cup, including areas or valleys or hollow thread elements which are left free in the screwing elements. The coating is not as thick (17) on raised areas or screw thread areas.

Abstract: A trial implant component for use in a surgical procedure for replacement of a joint between a long bone and another bone, comprises a metaphyseal part which can be located so that it extends into a cavity at the resected face of the long bone in contact with the internal wall of the cavity in the metaphyseal region, and a disk which has an essentially flat shape and which can be fitted to the metaphyseal part to provide a gauge as to the appropriate size of a head part which is to be selected according to the location of the axis of the bone relative to the edge of the resected bone.
Abstract: Method for selecting one or several knee prosthesis elements, by acquiring spatial data concerning spacing and tensioned femorotibial position, including the corresponding HKA angle, for at least three angular positions, of 20°, of 0°, and of the order of 90° in flexion, processing the data thus obtained to verify whether the HKA angles are substantially equal and included within the tolerable limits, and processing the data, in particular those corresponding to extension and flexion of 90° to determine the dimensions and/or positions of the implant.
