  • Patent number: 6323488
Abstract: An infrared motion sensing apparatus mounted within the canopy of a decorative lighting fixture where the apparatus may be vertically adjusted. The apparatus comprises a pyroelectric infrared sensor located in a stationary base. Mounted over the sensor and movable in a vertical direction is a Fresnel lens array. The array is mounted to a frame that is constrained to ride on the base in a vertical direction in response to the rotation of a screw. The canopy has an opening to allow radiation to be received by the sensor and a second opening for a stem of the screw so that manipulation of the stem may take place without disassembly of any part of the lighting fixture.

  • Patent number: 6062211
Abstract: An artificial gas log set which simulates in a very realistic fashion a log fire in a fireplace. The artificial log set comprises a log, a burner tube having ports for creating a yellow flame that is in close proximity to the log and a second set of ports for creating a blue flame which is positioned between the yellow flame and the log. The blue flame impinges on the log and acts as a separator or curtain that prevents impingement by the yellow flame on the log. This prevents the creation of unwanted and dangerous levels of emissions such as oxides of carbon and nitrogen. An alternative embodiment replaces the blue flame and its ports with duct work and exhaust gases. The exhaust gases act as a separator between the log and the yellow flame. The result is a realistic looking, simulated wood burning fireplace which may be safely used in an unvented environment.

  • Patent number: 5807098
Abstract: A heater including a housing, a heating assembly having a burner, and at least one of an oxygen level detection assembly adapted to distinguish between a relatively normal oxygen level, a relatively low oxygen level and relatively unsafe oxygen, a carbon monoxide sensor and a combustible gas sensor. The heater may also include an indicator adapted to produce at least one of an audible indication and a visible indication in response to a detection of a relatively low oxygen level, a detection of a predetermined level of carbon monoxide, or a detection of combustible gas.

  • Patent number: 5567144
Abstract: A fuel oil burner utilizing a hot surface ignition with an ignitor that is fully sintered and has essentially no porosity, a circuit for applying AC line voltage to the ignitor and to a blower motor, an AC-to-DC converter for providing twelve volts DC for operation of a control circuit that has a first time constant circuit for preheating the ignitor and maintaining the ignitor at an ignition temperature for a predetermined ignition trial period of time, a second time constant circuit for starting the blower motor and providing fuel to the combustion chamber for a predetermined time concurrent with the ignition trial period, and a third time constant circuit that either maintains the fan blower in its energized state if a flame of sufficient magnitude and frequency is detected and for de-energizing the blower motor if the flame is not detected in less than one second after the ignitor is de-energized.

  • Patent number: 5470018
Abstract: A thermostatic gas heater which permits the user to mechanically select the number of active heating elements, ranging from one to the total number of heating elements. The thermostat mechanically regulates gas flow to all active heating elements. No electricity is necessary for operation because all control components operate mechanically.

  • Patent number: 5470223
Abstract: A primary control unit and ignitor using a microprocessor for fuel and ignition control and intelligent flame monitoring of a fuel burning device such as kerosene fired heaters. The control unit will function with a voltage supply ranging from 30 to 264 volts, 50 or 60 hertz. It has intermittent ignition resulting in reduced electromagnetic interference and longer spark plug life. The ignitor circuit is isolated from the DC power supply to prevent any common mode electromagnetic interference.

  • Patent number: 5307800
Abstract: An afterburner positionable adjacent the discharge end of a combustion chamber of a fuel-burning heater utilizes a ring portion and a nose cone portion which are constructed as a unit out of a single piece of material. The ring portion accommodates the attachment of the afterburner adjacent the discharge end of the combustion chamber, and the nose cone portion has a skirt including peripheral edge portions which are spaced from and overlap the inner edge portions of the ring portion so that the direction of movement of the flow of products of combustion through the combustion chamber is altered before the combustion products exit the chamber. The afterburner is formed from a single piece of sheet steel in steps involving a first press operation, a lancing operation, and then a second press operation.

  • Patent number: 5271309
Abstract: A hammer-actuated fastening tool utilizing a powder cartridge for driving a fastener into a workpiece upon discharge of the cartridge includes a retainer clip for maintaining the cartridge in its operative position within the tool for discharge of the cartridge. The tool includes a housing within which a fastener is positionable, a cartridge-holding body supported within the housing defining a bore within which a cartridge is operatively positionable, and an elongated firing pin for transferring the impact of a hammer to the cartridge for discharging the cartridge. A guide member body is positioned about the firing pin for guiding the firing pin relative to the cartridge-holding body from a first position to a second position at which the impact of the hammer is transferred to a cartridge positioned within the cartridge-holding body. The retainer clip is attached to the guide member body so as to be interposed between the firing pin and a cartridge positioned within the bore of the cartridge-holding body.
