    Abstract: An apparatus is provided in which a plurality of phases, at least one of which is a liquid phase, are contacted and subjected to centrifugal force by being passed as a cocurrent turbulent flow circumferentially, axially, and inwardly and outwardly through sets of openings in the walls of cylindrical chambers having first and second elements coaxially positioned in a housing, the openings being provided with flow guide means for directing said cocurrent flows in the same circumferential direction, and the axial direction of passage of said cocurrent flows being not counter to the force of gravity. The flow guide means may be deflectors extending from said walls outside of one and inside of the other of said first and second elements; flow contour members may be provided; and the processed phases may comprise a solid phase.

    Abstract: In dual temperature systems utilizing different fluid materials in liquid and gas phases separable from each other (for example H.sub.2 O and H.sub.2 S), the phases are contacted with each other at a relatively hot temperature. Herein combinations of method and means are provided by which the gas is conditioned by raising its temperature and humidity principally by heat derived from the cooling and dehumidification of said gas. Special provisions are made in the combinations for transferring said heat and for the conditioning of the gas with high efficiency; and for economically controlling the temperature of the condensate resulting from the dehumidification of the gas to adapt it for particular uses in the system. Method and means are provided for such liquid gas contacting systems for efficiently stripping or separating dissolved gas from the effluent liquid and returning one of the so separated materials to the system.

    Abstract: A fluid treatment system including (a) the heating of a flow of carrier gas and the simultaneous vaporization thereinto of a liquid to be carried thereby in a first zone, and (b) the subsequent cooling of such flow and condensation of liquid therefrom in a third zone after the same has been subjected to a treatment including further heating and saturation of the gas with vapor of the liquid in a second zone, the principal proportion of the heat required being supplied in the first zone by transfer from the third zone by way of at least one indirect contact heat exchange. In particular embodiments the indirect contact heat exchange is effected with at least one circulation of liquid passing in countercurrent direct contact heat exchange with the gas. In particular embodiments special advantages are obtained by controlling the temperature of the condensate formed in the third zone by co-current or counter-current flow thereof with respect to the gas being cooled therein.
