Patents Assigned to Deutsche Babcock & Wilcox Aktiengesellschaft
  • Patent number: 4031860
Abstract: The arrangement is for reducing NO.sub.x content in the flue gas of a single stage combustion boiler, with a combustion chamber defined by tubular water walls and having plural burners, fired by liquid or gaseous fuel, mounted through one wall, with the combustion chamber communicating with the flue gas duct adjacent an opposite wall. The NO.sub.x content of the flue gases is reduced by dividing the combustion chamber into sections, each respective to a single burner, by gas-tight partitions, formed of water tubes, extending axially of the burner between the burner mounting wall and transition zone to the flue gas duct. The tubes of the partition may communicate with drums to which the tubular water walls are connected, and may communicate with the tubular water walls.

  • Patent number: 4013180
Abstract: A device for the removal of bulk materials from bulk material storage sites or dumps. A breakup unit is attached to a pick up arrangement and is adaptable to the inclination of the bulk material storage dump. The breakup unit has a rotatable roller provided with buckets which are inclined with respect to the axis of the roller and function as conveying elements. These conveying elements are arranged in a helical manner about the roller, and are connected to the roller by means of pins. Each conveying element has two legs arranged symmetrical with respect to the axis of rotation of the roller.

  • Patent number: 4006857
Abstract: A method for transporting heat over long distances in which waste heat from large power plants is utilized. The condenser back-pressure is increased to a level so that the condenser cooling water acquires a temperature in the range of 25.degree.-50.degree. C. The cooling water is subsequently pumped through large pipelines to heat consumer centers where it serves as a heat source for heat pumps. The heat content of the condenser cooling the water is used for raising the temperature of a heating medium to such a degree, that the heat content can be used for heating purposes. After giving off the heat, the condenser cooling water may be used for cooking or drinking purposes, or for the dilution and cooling of waste water.

  • Patent number: 3971343
Abstract: This invention relates to devices for cleaning the surfaces of pipes, and, in one embodiment particularly useful for cleaning the surfaces of suspended pipe coils in boilers, comprises a drive-cylinder actuated, two-armed lever, interconnected with the pipes to be cleaned by means of upper and lower connectors, wherein the arms of the lever are unequal in length and the distance c of its pivot point below the suspension level of the pipe coils with which it is associated, is equal to 2ab/(a+b),Where a is the distance of the upper connector from said suspension level and b is the distance therefrom of the lower connector.

  • Patent number: 3964889
Abstract: This invention relates to apparatus for charging and emptying filter material in a continuous filter silo for the purification or cleaning of flue gases, and in one embodiment comprises a layer of filter material is located between two substantially vertically arranged wall sections which have apertures, and wherein the layer of filter material, defined by the wall sections which are of annular cross section, is subdivided by at least 4 vertically arranged intermediate walls into segments, and wherein means are provided for the controlled feed of flue gases such that selectively two of the segments at a time are excepted from the action of flue gas, thereby permitting the renewal of the filter material, while the remaining segments being under full action of flue gas.

  • Patent number: 3962877
Abstract: An off-shore power plant in which the steam generators of the power plant are located within the support structure carrying the components of the power plant. The steam generator is operated with superpressure in the combustion chamber. A gas turbine is connected to the flue gas smoke stack of the combustion chamber, and a steam turbine is connected to the steam duct of the chamber. The support structure holding the steam generator carries a platform with several decks. The water treatment and gas purification equipment is located on the lower deck, whereas the upper deck carries the turbines and the generators.

  • Patent number: 3955932
Abstract: An inert gas generator arrangement in which a rotationally symmetric burner is substantially vertically oriented with respect to a cylindrical housing having within it a heatresistant steel cylindrical wall enclosing a firing chamber, the cylindrical housing having a funnel-shaped bottom and the lower edge of the firing chamber wall being disposed thereon. A cooling jacket surrounds the firing chamber wall to form a cooling arrangement. The cooling jacket is constructed in the form of a washing cooler.

  • Patent number: 3942589
Abstract: An improved shell and tube heat exchanger is described wherein power steam for driving a turbine is reheated between successive stages of the turbine. The power steam passing through the shell is heated by heating steam passing through heating tubes, the exchanger being of the type having steam distribution elements including a main inlet header adapted to distribute heating steam to the heating tubes, a main outlet header located to collect the heating steam from the heating tubes, a plurality of pairs of inlet and outlet subheaders, feeder tubes for coupling each of the inlet and outlet subheaders to the main inlet header and main outlet header respectively, and heating tubes coupling the inlet and outlet subheaders of each pair.
