Abstract: The present invention pertains to a system and method for the tokenization of text. The featurizer may be configured to receive input text and convert the input text into tokens. According to one aspect of the invention, the tokens may include only one type of character, the characters selected from the group consisting of letters, numbers, and punctuation. The tokenizer may also include a classifier. The classifier may be configured to receive the tokens from the featurizer. Furthermore, the classifier may be configured to analyze the tokens received from the featurizer to determine if the tokens may be input into a predetermined classification model using a preclassifier. If one of the tokens passes the preclassifier, then the token is classified using the predetermined classification model. Additionally, according to a first aspect of the invention, the tokenizer may also include a finalizer. The finalizer may be configured to receive the tokens and may be configured to produce a final output.

Abstract: A hand microphone and an adaptor module form an assembly which is a peripheral device for a personal computer. The hand microphone is used to control dictation functions to be carried out by the PC. Two separate analog control signal channels are output from the hand microphone and applied, respectively, as X- and Y-axis inputs for the game port on the PC. Control signals carried in the two signal channels are generated by actuating control switches mounted on the hand microphone.

Abstract: A software system provides an interface between a radiology information system and a central dictation system. The software includes first and second application modules which are both in communication with a database management system. Other components of the software system include protocol DLL's (dynamic linked libraries) and a communication DLL. Each of the software components maintains a separate trace buffer. An event occurring in any one of the components triggers a dump of all of the trace buffers. A server socket object is maintained in existence and placed in an accept mode when a client socket terminates communication with the server socket object.

Abstract: Methods and systems for classifying and normalizing information using a combination of traditional data input methods, natural language processing, and predetermined templates are disclosed. One method may include activating a template. Based on this template, template-specific data may also be retrieved. After receiving both an input stream of data and the template-specific data, this information may be processed to generate a report based on the input data and the template specific data. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, templates may include, for example, medical billing codes from a number of different billing code classifications for the generation of patient bills. Alternatively, a method may include receiving an input stream of data and processing the input stream of data. A determination may be made as to whether or not the input stream of data includes latent information. If the data includes latent information, a template associated with latent information may be activated.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for detecting and repairing audio recordings that contain busy signals and extended periods of silence by searching for clusters of silence by reviewing the amplitude in an audio recording sample and listing each silence and sample time.

Abstract: A system and method for a speech recognition technology that allows language models to be customized through the addition of special pronunciations for components of phrases, which are added to the factory language models during customization. It allows components of a phrase to have different pronunciations inside customer-added phrases than are specified for those isolated components in the factory language models.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a system and method for categorization of strings of words. More specifically, the present invention relates to a system and method for normalizing a string of words for use in a system for categorization of words in a predetermined categorization scheme. A method for adaptive categorization of words in a predetermined categorization scheme may include receiving a string of text, tagging the string of text, and normalizing the string of text. Normalization may be performed with a three-stage algorithm including a literal match processing stage, an approximation match processing stage, and a nearest neighbor match processing stage. The normalized string of text can be compared to a number of sequences of text in the predetermined categorization scheme.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring a telephone switching environment. In a preferred embodiment the system and method simultaneously monitor both an SMDR link and a real-time CTI link, gather information about calls from both sources, and combine gathered information into a single data model of the telephony activity. A server is provided which in a preferred embodiment comprises two main modules: a translation module and a message router module. Several translation modules can be used—one for each PBX interface or vendor API layer. The server accepts data from a PBX or similar equipment in a telephone switch environment, and can use both real-time CTI communications links and asynchronous information sources such as the Station Message Detail Recording (SMDR) interface. The server then translates and combines the various types of data into a unified, normalized format.

Abstract: A system and method for a speech recognition technology that allows language models for a particular language to be customized through the addition of alternate pronunciations that are specific to the accent of the dictator, for a subset of the words in the language model. The system includes the steps of identifying the pronunciation differences that are best handled by modifying the pronunciations of the language model, identifying target words in the language model for pronunciation modification, and creating a accented speech file used to modify the language model.

Abstract: A system and method for facilitating the processing and the use of documents by providing a system for categorizing document section headings under a set of canonical section headings. In the method for categorizing section headings, there may be a process of training a database and matching methods to categorize different but equivalent document section headings under canonical headings and categories. Once trained the system may match and categorize the document sections with little to no supervision of the categorization for large sets of documents.

The method includes generating a set of affixes from a selected input sequence and comparing the set of affixes with a predictive set of affixes. The method also includes selecting an affix from the predictive set of affixes. The customization client may also be configured to provide the user with a series of formatting rules for controlling the appearance and format of a document transcribed by an automated speech recognition system.

Abstract: A system and method may be disclosed for facilitating the conversion of dictation into usable and formatted documents by providing a method of post processing speech recognition output. In particular, the post processing system may be configured to implement rewrite rules and process raw speech recognition output or other raw data according to those rewrite rules. The application of the rewrite rules may format and/or normalize the raw speech recognition output into formatted or finalized documents and reports. The system may thereby reduce or eliminate the need for post processing by transcriptionists or dictation authors.

Abstract: A portable digital audio recorder is operable with solid state memory cards having varying storage capacities. When a memory card is installed in the recorder, the recorder determines the storage capacity of the memory card. The recorder then automatically selects a recording mode based on the detected storage capacity of the memory card. When the memory card has a high storage capacity, the recorder'selects a high-quality recording mode, with low or, no data compression. When the storage capacity of the memory card is relatively small, the recorder selects a high-compression recording mode.

Abstract: A dictation system is formed of two personal computers connected by an e-mail system. A hand microphone with control switches is provided at one personal computer and a foot pedal is provided at the other personal computer. The hand microphone is used to generate a dictation file at the first personal computer. In response to actuation of a control switch on the hand microphone, the dictation file is transmitted via the electronic mail system to the second personal computer. The foot pedal at the second personal computer is used to control audible reproduction of the dictation file for the purpose of transcription at the second personal computer. The resulting text file is sent via the electronic mail system from the second personal computer to the first personal computer.

Abstract: A system and method may be disclosed for facilitating the creation or modification of a document by providing a mechanism for locating relevant data from external sources and organizing and incorporating some or all of said data into the document. In the method for reusing data, there may be a set of documents that may be queried, where each document may be divided into a plurality of sections. A plurality of section text groups may be formed based on the set of documents, where each section text group may be associated with a respective section from the plurality of sections and each section group includes a plurality of items. Each item may be associated with a respective section from each document of the set of documents. A selected item within a selected section text group may be focused. The selected item may be extracted to a current document. The current document may be exported to a host application.

Query hits are determined within the set of documents for a selected extraction target of a plurality of extraction targets. The query hits are associated with the selected extraction target. The plurality of extraction targets is displayed, where each extraction target being a link to associated query hits from the set of documents.
