  • Patent number: 10451613
Abstract: A progressive compression driven flow cartridge for analyzing liquids is coupled with convenient sampling methods for different applications. A one-step device provides for direct sample collection upon a sample pad annexed to the cartridge. The sample pad can deliver sample to the test strips, while saving a portion of the sample pad for further laboratory confirmation use. If the sample collecting pad is not suitable to collect the sample, such as the case of biological substances inside the human body, such as within the nose or throat, a two-step device can include a long-arm swab applicator and a specialized chamber in which some amount of liquid can dissolve biological substances as specimen. The specimen can then be transferred onto the cartridge, either by application to the sample pad, or into the device through a sample window. Each method provides a qualitative analysis much faster than traditional rapid diagnostic devices.

  • Publication number: 20180313829
Abstract: A cartridge (1) and method for conducting a labeled molecular affinity binding test such as antibody/antigen, ligand/receptor, and colorometric reactions, and other chemical reactions for which one or more analytes is present in a liquid sample formate. A progressive compression structure (22,36) progressively forces a liquid flow out of a conjugate pad (26) toward a reaction region (27) to more thoroughly and rapidly mix the liquid, encouraging specific first affinity binding to the analytes in question. A specially dimensioned constricting passageway (35) surrounding the reaction region including the result zones (28,29) provides an additional siphoning force to the flow.

  • Patent number: 9921217
Abstract: A test device uses driven flow technology in a simplified testing format, such as dip format, to provide a rapid diagnostic test device that shortens the interpretation time of the test result to less than one minute and minimizes manufacturing costs. The test device shortens the distance between the opening on the front side housing and the conjugate pad without squeezing the sample pad and without requiring a separate component, such as a cap, to squeeze the sample pad. The test device utilizes a single, integral housing made from, for example, a flexible transparent material, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that integrates the traditional base and top, or inner and outer tubes, into one to save the manufacturing costs.

A specially dimensioned constricting passageway surrounding the reaction region including the result zones provides an additional siphoning force to the flow. These combined forces rapidly and more evenly guide the flow of liquid through the reaction region so that the rushed rate of uptake of analytes at the strip lines are more evenly distributed, adhesive attachment of non-specific molecules is largely avoided, vastly improving sensitivity and specificity, and providing quantitative results in some tests.

  • Patent number: 9823244
Abstract: A progressive compression test cartridge that is adapted with driven flow technology that can be coupled with a digital electronic device to make the test reading result more reliable quantitatively than visual interpretation. The test cartridge can provide test results typically in one minute or less. The test cartridge can accept a sample via a droplet or a stream sampling method. In the stream sampling method, the open end of the test cartridge allows the sample pad of the test strip to be exposed to the stream of fluid. A refracting pad on the base of the test cartridge can refract the original stream vector partially along the sample pad then continue flowing to elute and release the nanoparticles from the conjugate pad onto the membrane which is pre-coated with reactant(s). Collimated compression bars can prevent flooding sample by restricting the top and bottom surface of the conjugated pad.

  • Patent number: 9784733
Abstract: A rapid diagnostic test device uses driven flow technology to significantly expedite the testing time of a sample. The rapid diagnostic test device can be used to analyze liquids, such as some body fluids, by using labeled molecular affinity binding, such as immunochromatography. The test device can detect an analyte, such as an antibody or antigen, which may indicate a particular condition, the presence of a particular drug, or the like. The device includes an inner member that receives the body fluid. Dripping holes in the inner member, or a sloped surface, creates a stream force of the body fluid against the sample pad of the test strip. A portion of the stream force of the body fluid is directed upward toward the conjugate pad to push the antibody/body fluid sample onto the membrane of the test strip.

  • Patent number: 8021625
Abstract: A device and method for enhancing rapid confirmatory immunological testing (“RCIT”) in chromatography strip-type rapid IVD devices useful in, for example, clinical, point-of-care, laboratory or over-the-counter settings. The device drives a flow fluid, primarily under the force of gravity alone, through a first chamber having a porous dam structure to enhance and substantially complete the first affinity binding reaction between a source of mobilizable labeled binding members and an analyte in the fluid. Flow through the dam causes a delay, mixing and trapping of the typically chemically disuniform initial fluid front so that fluid exiting the dam exhibits a more uniformly high degree of first affinity binding and decreased non-affinity binding.

  • Patent number: 7655184
Abstract: A self-contained apparatus using a gravitationally encouraged, interrupted, downward, diffusive and programmed flow of fluid to provide for rapid confirmatory immunological testing (“RCIT”) in, for example, a clinical, point-of-care setting. A fluid specimen such as blood, saliva or urine is deposited into a first chamber carrying a source of conjugate having mobilizable binding members such as immunographic antigens or antibodies specific to the condition being tested conjugated to a detectable label such as colloidal gold. The specimen is premixed with a first measured, reactive mix buffer solution carried within an openable tank. The specimen and solution are temporarily held within an incubation reservoir formed behind a dam made from porous, diffusive material.

A fluid specimen such as blood, saliva or urine is deposited into a first chamber carrying a colloidal conjugate of antigens or antibodies pathogenically specific to the condition being tested and premixed with a first measured, reactive mix buffer solution carried within an openable tank. Alternately, the buffer solution is preformulated to carry the colloidal conjugate in suspension. The premixture flows out of the first chamber toward chromatographic test strips having a single layer of uniformly dispersed porous matrix material such as polyethylene and inclined in a downward flow orientation. The flow is interrupted by a holding reservoir which is drained by siphoning, gravity and capillary forces. The delayed and regulated flow provides an incubation time for a better affinity binding of the specimen.
