Patent number: 8711178Abstract: A method for generating an animated morph between a first image and a second image is provided. The method may include: (i) reading a first set of cephalometric landmark points associated with the first image; (ii) reading a second set of cephalometric landmark points associated with the second image; (iii) defining a first set of line segments by defining a line segment between each of the first set of cephalometric landmarks; (iv) defining a second set of line segments by defining a line segment between each of the second set of cephalometric landmarks such that each line segment of the second set of line segments corresponds to a corresponding line segment of the first set of line segments; and (v) generating an animation progressively warping the first image to the second image based at least on the first set of line segments and the second set of line segments.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2011Date of Patent: April 29, 2014Assignee: Dolphin Imaging Systems, LLCInventor: Emilio David Cortés Provencio

Patent number: 8650005Abstract: A method may include displaying one or more interactive 2D images, each 2D image representing at least bony tissue cranio-facial features of a patient and each 2D image having one or more portions each associated with a corresponding portion of the patient's bony. The method may also include displaying a 3D image representing exterior soft-tissue cranio-facial features of the patient. The method may additionally include receiving input from a user regarding movement of a particular portion of the one or more portions of the 2D image. The method may further include redrawing the 3D image based at least on the movement of the particular portion of the 2D image to simulate response of the exterior soft-tissue cranio-facial features of the patient to movement of a portion of the patient's bony tissue corresponding to the particular portion of the 2D image.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2011Date of Patent: February 11, 2014Assignee: Dolphin Imaging Systems, LLCInventor: Swanwa Liao

Patent number: 8417004Abstract: In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a method may include mapping an ellipse with its center at the origin of an xy-coordinate plane to a circle with its center at the origin of the xy-coordinate plane. The method may also include transforming a three-dimensional subject image including a curved profile in the xy-coordinate plane to an intermediate image based at least on the mapping of the ellipse to a base circle. The method may further include transforming the intermediate image to a transformed image having a linear profile by distorting each of one or more points of interest of the intermediate image based at least on a dimension of the circle and a coordinate of such point.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2011Date of Patent: April 9, 2013Assignee: Dolphin Imaging Systems, LLCInventor: Swanwa Liao

Patent number: 7978191Abstract: A system and method for modifying a curved cut plane of a 3D volume to locate objects or sections of interest within the 3D volume intersected by the cut plane. A cross-section of the 3D volume along an initially estimated curved cut plane is projected onto a flat viewing plane, and a panorama image of the cross-section is displayed to the user. If the initially estimated curved cut plane does not exactly intersect the object or section of interest, the user manipulates a user input device to modify the curve of the plane inward or outward in the 3D volume away from the projected plane. As the user manipulates the user input device, an affected portion of the curve is recalculated and a modified curved cut plane is reconstructed based on the recalculated curve for re-projecting a modified cross-section of the 3D volume in real time with the movement of the user input device.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2007Date of Patent: July 12, 2011Assignee: Dolphin Imaging Systems, LLCInventor: Swanwa Liao
