Patents Assigned to Dominion Tool & Die Company, Inc.
  • Patent number: 5727299
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for setting the toe-in on motor vehicles during assembly thereof is disclosed which includes a sensor assembly operative to accurately sense the position of a nut runner prior to torquing of a locking jam nut so as to thereby ensure the full desired torque loading is applied to the jam nut. The method includes the step of rotating the nut runner in a reverse direction a predetermined distance subsequent to ascertaining its position so as to provide a distance of travel to assure alignment of the wrenching surfaces of the nut runner and jam nut.

  • Patent number: 4886101
Abstract: There is disclosed herein load simulating apparatus for use in applying a load to a mounted and inflated wheel/tire assembly in order to insure proper and complete seating of the tire bead on the vehicle rim. The load simulating apparatus of the present invention incorporates a plurality of pivotably mounted driven rollers which are operable to move into engagement with the peripheral tread portion of the tire and to accelerate same while applying a generally radially inwardly directed force thereto so as to simulate the loading on the tire typically encountered after the wheel/tire assembly is mounted on a vehicle. Preferably, the load simulating apparatus of the present invention will be incorporated in a wheel/tire assembly line and located prior to the balancing machine so as to insure proper and complete seating of the tire bead before the assembly is balanced.

  • Patent number: 4547945
Abstract: A mechanism for aligning a tire on a wheel in a single station comprising a rotating mechanism to rotate either the wheel or tire. A sensing mechanism to sense the presence of indicia on one of the wheel or tire as it is rotated and to then actuate a holding mechanism to grip either the wheel or tire thus preventing rotation. The sensing mechanism further senses the presence of indicia on the other of the wheel or tire as it is rotated and to cause the rotation thereof to stop at a predetermined location to assure accurate relative alignment of the wheel and tire.

  • Patent number: 4307604
Abstract: A device for testing a hydraulic circuit including the actuating cylinder and piston therefor. The testing device comprises a unitary assembly which is adapted to be clamped to the cylinder to be tested and which actuates the piston for pressurizing the associated hydraulic circuit. Sensing elements are incorporated for sensing the pressure applied to the hydraulic circuit and for sensing the amount of travel of the piston of the actuator during a given time period. In this way leaks or flaws in the hydraulic system may be readily detected.

  • Patent number: 4186595
Abstract: Two embodiments of a testing device for testing the hydraulic braking system of a motor vehicle. Each embodiment includes a supporting portion that is adapted to be fixed relative to a component of the vehicle in proximity to the brake pedal, such as the steering column and a force applying portion that is adapted to apply pressure to the brake pedal. Sensing means are provided that sense both the pressure applied to the brake pedal and the degree of travel of the brake pedal during a given time period.
