  • Patent number: 8347675
Abstract: A method and apparatus for extending an existing simplex or multiplex lock-and-key system that includes a family of first keys each having a first profile and of a corresponding plurality of first locks each operable by a first key and each having a first keyway configured for accepting the first key profile. Second keys of a new family are defined with a core section corresponding to the first key profile and a narrowed projection extending from the bottom of the core section. Corresponding second locks have a second keyway profile defined as the compliment of the second key profile, thus including a complimentary core section and a foot recess extending from the bottom of the second keyway core section. The second locks accept a second key positioned at the second keyway baseline to normally lift the lock pin stacks and operate the second lock.

  • Patent number: 6499185
Abstract: A door hold-open device including a track, a first catch slidably mounted for longitudinal movement in the track, a stop assembly including a second catch coupled to the track and adapted to engage the first catch wherein the second catch is moveable in a direction different than the longitudinal direction, a resilient member that applies a force to the second catch to urge the second catch into a position where the second catch engages the first catch when the first catch is adjacent to the second catch, and a linear actuator having a first position and a second position, wherein the linear actuator applies a first force to the resilient member in the first position and a second different force to the resilient member in the second position.

  • Patent number: 6002217
Abstract: The present invention relates to a door operating system for controlling the movement of a door, the system having a motor with a motor shaft for providing rotational energy to the system and a gear chain assembly for receiving the rotational energy from the motor shaft and applying the received rotational energy to the door to move the door, comprising a sprocket rotatably mounted on the gear chain assembly for rotation around an axis of the gear chain assembly and fixedly coupled to the motor shaft for receiving and transmitting the rotational energy from the motor shaft; a drive pin fixedly disposed on the sprocket for rotational movement around the axis of the gear chain assembly as the sprocket rotates around the axis; a rotational energy receiving extension rotatably mounted on the gear chain assembly and drivingly coupled to the door for moving the door; a drive dog fixedly disposed on the energy receiving extension for rotational movement around the axis of the gear chain assembly as the energy receiv

  • Patent number: 5956249
Abstract: A method is disclosed for selective alteration and control of door movement modes utilizing an apparatus that is primarily non-hydraulic and incorporated with a known mechanism which is functional independently from the apparatus in one mode of operation and which includes a piston for controlling door closing characteristics by selected fluid flow within the mechanism. The apparatus includes a motor driven lead screw having a linearly movable shuttle unit mounted thereon, the shuttle unit being positioned relative to the piston of the mechanism to accommodate nonattached contact with the piston to urge the piston, when the shuttle unit is moved, in a direction that will at least provide selective assistance with door opening in another mode of operation. Operation of the apparatus is controlled by programming of a related controller including non-volatile memory.

  • Patent number: 4878265
Abstract: A releasable door hold-open mechanism, for use with a door closer, is disclosed. The mechanism employs a latch assembly, mounted in a track which defines a predetermined path for a slider shoe associated with a door closer arm. The latch assembly employs a pair of reciprocable rollers, associated with a solenoid activated clevis. When the solenoid is actuated, the clevis maintains the rollers in a latching position, in which they can capture and hold a wedge associated with the slider shoe. Deactivation of the solenoid permits release of the wedge, and the force of the solenoid can also be overcome manually to release the wedge. The latch assembly is selectively positionable in a broad range of positions within the track, to determine the angular position of the door at which holding occurs.

  • Patent number: 4375735
Abstract: An air lock has a chamber and a pair of doors in respective walls of the chamber. Operators associated with the doors include closers normally biasing the doors to closed positions and fluid powered openers associated with the closers capable of overriding the bias of the closers. A control system, operation of which may be initiated by initial opening displacement of one of the doors or (in one embodiment of the invention) by manually operable remote switch means, provides for opening of one of the doors and latching of the other to prevent simultaneous opening of both doors. The latch means for the doors may be overriden by direct displacement of the doors for safety purposes. The control system also triggers air handling apparatus associated with the chamber.
