  • Patent number: 10920887
Abstract: A blowout preventer (BOP) and a seal anti-extrusion apparatus is provided for well control about a tubular such as a polish rod. Each of opposing ram blocks support a semi-circular primary seal and at least one downstream backup ring. An extrusion gap is formed between the ram block and the rod. The backup ring has profile that is axially compressible by the primary seal when activated, causing an inner diameter diminish, and closing the extrusion gap for improved sealing integrity of the primary seal.

  • Patent number: 10900313
Abstract: Apparatus and methodologies are provided for modifying the wellhead structure of a production well to seal the production well before subterranean fracturing operations. The apparatus includes an enclosure tubular and adapter 5 for sealingly engaging the polish rod extending from the wellhead structure, while maintaining the entire rod string in tension in a manner to ensure that the string and its connection with the downhole pump are not compromised. More specifically, the present preparations involve retaining the rod string in tension while removing at least the stuffing box from the wellhead structure, and 10 temporarily installing the enclosure tubular and adapter to seal the wellhead, preventing wellbore blowouts.

  • Patent number: 10767683
Abstract: A thread profile for rotary shouldered threaded connections uses different thread root radii for the pin thread and the box thread in order to optimize stress distribution and maximize thread contact area. The thread profile may be adapted for use in double-shouldered, two-start, taper-threaded connections to replace currently-used threaded connections such as the rotor-to-adapter connection in a downhole motor. The thread profile may incorporate an undercut buttress design.

  • Patent number: 10648287
Abstract: A downhole tool, configured to receive a milling tool or other forcing tool, includes: a tubular mandrel; an adapter housing coupled to the mandrel; a guide sleeve disposed within the adapter housing; a movable sleeve configured for sliding movement within the guide sleeve; and a retainer positioned uphole of the movable sleeve. The retainer includes an upper annular portion, a lower annular portion, an annular void between the upper and lower annular portions, and a bridge portion extending between the upper and lower annular portions. The upper annular portion is initially fixed to the guide sleeve. The lower annular portion is configured such that downward movement of the lower annular portion causes the movable sleeve to move downward within the guide sleeve. The bridge portion comprises a through-passage and a thin walled segment adjacent to the void. Milling or otherwise disconnecting the bridge portion permits the lower annular portion to move the moveable sleeve.

  • Patent number: 10590705
Abstract: A downhole motor has a bearing mandrel rotatably disposed within a housing, plus an impact adapter disposed above and connected to the bearing mandrel and rotatable therewith. The impact adapter has upwardly-projecting teeth engageable with downwardly-projecting teeth on a drive mandrel disposed above and coaxially aligned with the impact adapter. The drive mandrel is both rotatable and axially movable within the housing, and relative to the impact adapter. By means of a cam assembly and a helical spring (or other energy storage means) associated with the drive mandrel, rotation of the drive mandrel causes upward movement of the drive mandrel within the housing, thus compressing the spring. Further rotation causes instantaneous dropping of the drive mandrel, releasing energy stored in the spring, and causing the application of rotational and/or axial impacts to the bearing mandrel, and thus to a drill bit connected to the bearing mandrel.

  • Patent number: 10358894
Abstract: It has been found that in many instances it is desirable to be able to determine where fluid in a well originates. To that end a tracer assembly is provided where the tracer assembly becomes a portion of the tubular that is run into the wellbore. Preferably the tracer assembly provides an exterior barrier whether permanent or temporary to fluid flow outside of the tubular and also provides an interior barrier to fluid flow as it passes through the inner bore of the tubular. The interior barrier is adjustable so that upon command it provides access from the interior of the tubular to at least a portion of a cavity within the tracer assembly. The cavity is provided with a tracer or tracers so that as fluid is allowed within the interior cavity portion of the tracer is eroded, dissolved, or otherwise mixed with the fluid and the tracer that is now mixed with the fluid is transported to the surface.

  • Patent number: 10323482
Abstract: A flow-actuated pressure equalization valve, for use with a downhole tool such as a treatment tool, for use in stimulating a subterranean formation. The equalization valve allows the pressure of treatment fluid above and below an isolation device to be equalized so the treatment tool can be moved. The valve can be closed when fluid flow exceeds a certain threshold and the treatment tool is set in the wellbore. While running in or pulling out of hole, the valve will not close regardless of the rate of fluid flow. The valve can be opened by stopping fluid flow and then bleeding off pressure above the isolation device, or by pulling up on the treatment tool.

  • Patent number: 10294748
Abstract: A wellbore dart or pill is provided such that each time the dart passes through a downhole tool having a seat, an externally extending finger is forced radially inward into the dart. As the finger moves inward to its depressed position, the finger moves a ball or other placeholder from a first position to a second position. When the ball is moved to the second position it may be released into the interior of the well bore or into a chamber in the tool. Once each of the balls have been released from the second position the finger is locked radially outward causing the dart to land and be locked in place at the next seat that is encountered by the dart.

  • Patent number: 10280707
Abstract: A re-closable toe sleeve is disclosed where the toe sleeve has a port allowing fluid access from the interior of the toe sleeve to the exterior of the toe sleeve. A burst disk is placed inside the port to prevent fluid access from the interior of the toe sleeve to the exterior of the toe sleeve. However upon the fluid in the interior of the toe sleeve reaching a predetermined level the burst disk is removed or otherwise modified to allow fluid access through the port. A sliding sleeve is placed within the toe sleeve so that the sliding sleeve can be moved to cover the port thereby preventing fluid access from the interior of the toe sleeve to the exterior of the toe sleeve or the sliding sleeve may be moved to uncover the port thereby allowing fluid access from the interior of the toe sleeve to the exterior the toe sleeve. The sliding sleeve is mechanically moved from the surface and is typically run into the well in the open position such that the port is uncovered by the sliding sleeve.
