    Abstract: A choke assembly tensioner system for use with a tensioning system of a drilling rig to control a riser recoil event with a choke spool housing with a hydraulic tank fluid port, a spool retainer port, an actuator opening with a rotation limiting keyway and a choke spool disposed within the choke spool housing. An actuator system with a cover, electrical and directional connections is connected and retains the choke spool housing which is further retained within the choke spool housing by a retaining spool which has an orifice for hydraulic fluid. The choke spool is connected to the choke spool housing by bearing surfaces on the choke spool and the choke spool housing. The choke spool is comprised of an outer spool and a rotatable inner spool, both containing a plurality of bidirectional flow holes. The rotatable inner spool has a shaft which contains pressure neutralization holes.

A guide post engages the guide post sleeves, and an individually replaceable modular cylinder is in each cylinder sleeve along with at least one individually removable seal gland that is lubricated by a hydraulic power unit, and a slidable rod engaging each of the cylinders. The slidable rods can be attached to the tension deck with a tension ring to engage a riser and provide movable tension to the riser.

The system can also include a piston disposed on the cylinder rod first end; a first fluid port formed in the pressure containing tube; a second fluid disposed within the pressure containing tube; a blind end cap and mount; a laser secured to the pressure containing tube; at least one optic guide; a lens separating the at least one optic guide from the second fluid. The cylinder stroke system can also include a camera in communication with a main controller. The camera can receive the reflection from the piston and convert the reflection into a reflection signal.

    Abstract: A tensioner system for an offshore drilling rig for drilling a well with recoil controls is disclosed herein. The tensioner system can include removable independently operable riser tensioner assemblies. Each removable independently operable riser tensioner assembly can include a bidirectional riser recoil valve and a hydraulic cylinder connected thereto. The hydraulic cylinder can power a rod engaged with a clevis and a blind end clevis. The clevis can engage a tension ring on a drilling riser. A fluid containment storage can be connected to the bidirectional riser recoil valve and the hydraulic cylinder, and can have a goose neck for connecting to a flexible jumper. A controller can be connected to the bidirectional riser recoil valve for regulating flow of hydraulic fluid therethrough to control a disconnect process of the drilling riser by controlled raising or lowering of the drilling riser.
