  • Patent number: 5238329
Abstract: A mine roof support system is disclosed having a connector. The connector has a first hole through which one end of a first roof supporting rod is inserted and a second hole through which one end of a second roof supporting rod is inserted. The first and second roof supporting rods are fastened to the connector so as to support the roof of the mine. In order to increase the bending arcs of the connector along which the first and second roof supporting rods bend without increasing the weight of the connector, the holes of the connector may be bevelled to form elliptical openings in the connector and the connector may be canted.

  • Patent number: 5056284
Abstract: To facilitate the construction of a very high structural member for use in a body of water such as at an offshore location with the structural member extending from the floor of the body of water to above its surface, tensioning members are inserted into relatively narrow tensioning ducts accessible only from the top of the structural member. The tensioning members, such as steel rods, steel wires, or steel wire strands, are provided with members for effecting a positive locking engagement in a hardenable material forming an anchored length of the tension member at the lower end of the tensioning ducts. Initially, the tension members are lowered into the lower ends of the ducts and then are grouted in the ducts by a hardenable material. After the hardenable material has set over an anchored length, the tension members are tensioned within the ducts. Next, the tensioned length of the tension members in the ducts is grouted with a hardenable material to provide a composite action with the structural member.

  • Patent number: 4884711
Abstract: This container system is designed in such a way that wastes which cannot be differentiated according to their effects can be stored for an indefinite period in the system which is self-contained and hence cut off from the environment, and these wastes can also be recovered at any time without polluting the environment. For this purpose this container concept is designed as a double-walled system, consisting of an inner container (2) as a casing for the waste and an outer container (1) as a protective container, with an air space as an inspection and working chamber (4) between the two. The inner container (2) is designed in such a way that it can be visually, mechanically, chemically and/or biologically checked, repaired and renewed completely and on all sides at any time while full.

  • Patent number: 4644728
Abstract: The securing element (16) for tensionally fastening additions like roof balustrades (14), exterior stairways (15), roofs (11), arbors, greenhouses (13), pergolas (12), advertising elements, poster walls, etc. that function as extensions or expansions, to structures, especially single-story structures erected with with a kit of components. The securing element (16) extends over the total length of one side of the main structure (10) and has at least one fastening rail (22 or 23) that extends over its own total length.

  • Patent number: 4593498
Abstract: A kit of components a structure consists of a basic element (3) consisting, in the form of a hollow structural section like a cellular space with a rectangular cross-section, of two parallel side walls (1a) and of a floor slab (1b) and roof slab (1c), leaving two openings (3b), of a two-part folding door (6) that can be set into one of the two opening to constitute a front element, that can be fitted against each vertical side of the opening, and that consists at least partly of light-permeable material, each part of which has at least two wings that can be swung around axes parallel to the vertical front side, whereby the folding door (6) does not when it is open and folded back toward the two vertical front sides extend into the interior of the cellular space.

  • Patent number: 4275679
Abstract: Floating platforms for various offshore facilities are formed of float members monolithically connected to a superposed platform. The float members are spherically shaped and are formed of reinforced or prestressed concrete. The platform can be a hollow planar member or it can be curved in one or two directions, and the platforms are formed of prestressed concrete. Cylindrical shafts can be used to connect the spherically shaped floats and the platform. Individual floating platforms can be connected by expansion joints and used as a runway. The float members can be constructed at the shoreline, launched into the water and held in a regular pattern while decked over with the platform. After completion of the construction procedure, the floating platform can be moved to an offshore location for use.

  • Patent number: 4114219
Abstract: A pair of longitudinally extending cantilevered beam-type structural members are interconnected for the transmission of shearing forces between them. A part is secured to and projects longitudinally from the cantilevered end of one of the structural members into a horizontally displaceable bearing in the other. A reinforcing part is rigidly connected to one of the structural members and extends in the longitudinal direction of the structural member from its cantilevered end into and is supported by at least one longitudinally displaceable bearing in the other said structural member. The reinforcing part can be a single element or a pair of elements with one being a compression element and the other a tension element.
