  • Patent number: 11219938
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for joining metal sheets resting on one another with a variable total thickness by a clinching device comprising at least one punch and a die arranged coaxially to the punch. The punch is controllable by an electronic control unit and movable in an axial direction relative to the die. The metal sheets are arranged in a plane between the punch and the die, and the penetration depth necessary for joining the metal sheets is adjustable. Before joining the metal sheets, the current total thickness is determined with the aid of the control unit and the penetration depth is set depending on the total thickness. The method includes: storing a number of different total thicknesses or total thickness ranges in the control unit, assigning a penetration depth to a total thickness or to a total thickness range, and calibrating the clinching device.

  • Publication number: 20070266759
Abstract: A die for a tool set includes a punch and a die for mechanically joining metal sheets lying flat one on top of another by shaping. An anvil and die segments together form a cavity into which the joining is carried out. The die segments are supported in a slidable manner at an angle transversely, preferably orthogonally to the cavity axis H against a spring force. A casing sleeve surrounding the die segments is essentially rectangular in cross section, open at the top and can be attached to a base body. The die segments can be supported and guided in guide slots lying parallel opposite one another in the casing sleeve. Guide mechanisms project laterally on the die segments for positive engagement in the guide slots.

  • Patent number: 4614017
Abstract: A device is described for joining metal sheets with a male and female die, of the type in which the dies interact to cut or slice through the sheets to form portions of material which are spread via material flow by the die interaction to prevent separation of the sheets. The female die has plates which provide counter-edges which interact with the male punch to provide the desired cutting. The metal plates are leaf springs which yield after the cutting to permit spreading of the material.
