Abstract: Supporting assemblies for supporting a suspended load and processes relating thereto are described. An exemplar supporting assembly includes: (i) an area-narrowing feature including a first inner surface defining a first aperture; (ii) a main tube including an interior-main surface defining a cavity having disposed therewithin the area-narrowing feature; (iii) an area-expanding feature including a second outer surface; and (iv) a telescoping rod including an outer-telescoping surface having disposed thereon the area-expanding feature. In an assembled state of the supporting assembly, the outer-telescoping surface slidably passes through and establishes a first frictional contact with the first inner surface, and the second outer surface slidably engages and establishes a second frictional contact with the interior-main surface.

  • Patent number: 11286175
Abstract: Fluid stream management systems and methods relating thereto are described. The fluid management system includes a neural network, which comprises: (i) an input layer that is communicatively coupled to one or more fluid facility sensors and/or one or more pre-processing flow sensors such that one or more of the flow condition attribute values are received the neural network; (ii) one or more intermediate layers, which are configured to constrain one or more of the flow condition attribute values to arrive at modified flow condition attribute values; (iii) an output layer, which transmits, one or more modified flow condition attribute values to a downstream control device. This control device and other computation devices perform certain calculations that ultimately inform a flow controller, which in turn, instructs a flow-directing device regarding management of fluid streams.

  • Publication number: 20210230016
Abstract: Fluid stream management systems and methods are described. An exemplar fluid stream management system includes a neural network connected to a cascading treatment processor. The neural network calculates an initial distant flow condition attribute value for a distant fluid treatment facility. The cascading treatment processor using hydrological information and the initial distant flow condition attribute value computes a predicted modified contribution value for the distant fluid treatment facility. The cascading treatment processor instructs multiple fluid flow controllers, each of which controls the operation of a flow-directing device such that a sum of the predicted modified total load value and a real time total load value of the distant fluid treatment facility is minimized. The real time total load value of the distant fluid treatment facility is based upon real time measurements obtained from one or more of the distant fluid treatment facility sensors.

  • Publication number: 20200270856
Abstract: Fluid stream management systems and methods relating thereto are described. The fluid management system includes: (1) one or more storage chambers; (2) two or more flow condition attribute measuring devices configured to measures certain flow condition attribute values; (3) one or more flow controllers that are communicatively coupled to receive the flow condition attribute values and use them to establish certain cost functions; and (4) one or more flow-modifying devices, each of which is coupled to at least one of the flow controllers, and based upon instruction received from at least one of the flow controllers, the flow-modifying device is capable of modifying flow of fluid through one or more of the flow-modifying devices to minimize a difference between the established cost functions.

  • Patent number: 10161124
Abstract: A method and a system for monitoring the performance of combined sewer overflow structures is described. The inventive system includes sensors for monitoring the level of sewage in the structure and the operation of valves. A data processing unit collects data and calculates the flow of an overflow event and/or the performance of gate valves. The system may be battery operated and may adaptively change the sensor sampling time to prolong battery lifetime.

  • Patent number: 10113304
Abstract: The present invention is a method and system for control of sewer systems. The invention may implement ABRTC (RTC) to dynamically control of sewer systems to accomplish a desired outcome, such as CSO or SSO reduction or reduce water pollution or reduce surface flooding. In one embodiment, an Agent-Based RTC System assigns an agent to each sewer asset. Each agent measures the current state of its corresponding asset and assigns a virtual cost to any incoming flow to the asset based on the asset hydraulic or water quality state. The virtual cost is communicated to other assets upstream or downstream that may change the hydraulic or water quality state of the asset communicating the virtual cost. The network of agents may thus control the sewer to achieve the desired objective, such as asset hydraulic or water quality state.

  • Patent number: 8258977
Abstract: A manhole cover is for use with a system for transmitting data to an above surface receiver. The manhole cover includes a body suitable for covering a manhole. At least a portion of the body is formed from a radio wave penetrable material so that radio waves may pass through the body. A microprocessor is provided for receiving a signal representing at least one environmental parameter inside a manhole enclosure measured by a sensor, and for responding to the signal by directly or indirectly causing a change to a parameter in the enclosure. A transmitting element in communication with the microprocessor transmits the signal to the surface above the manhole cover. Circuitry connects the microprocessor and the transmitting element for driving the transmitting element to transmit the signal. The microprocessor may be programmed to run an energy conservation cycle, which preserves power from the power source. Any one of numerous antenna designs may be embedded in the body of the cover.
