When in a closed configuration, the case has generally semi-cylindrical sidewalls which intersect in generally quarter-spherical corners. The case incorporates a flexible, polymeric sleeve that wraps around the spine sidewall, is bonded to the front and back covers near the edges of the closure sidewall.

The case, when closed, has generally semi-cylindrical rimwalls, including upper and lower rimwalls, a spine rimwall, and a closure rimwall. The rimwalls intersect in generally quarter-spherical comers. The generally semi-cylindrical rimwalls may be optionally flattened slightly to prevent multiple closed cases that are being pushed down an assembly line from climbing over one another. Another novel feature of the optical disc case is an off-center disk mounting hub on each cover to leave room for a title band at the top of the case and also to leave room for the attachment of an EAS tag inside the case. The case also optionally incorporates antitheft elements.

The first base panel and second base panel are of a complementary size to, in the closed condition, provide perimeter to perimeter engagement of the first and second base panels. A sheet metal cover is affixed to and overlaying the first base panel to the non enclosure side of the first base panel.

Abstract: A media storage disc box comprising a base and a lid hingingly engaged to the base to be movable between an open condition to provide access to a media storage disc supported at its central aperture by a push release rosette fixture engaged to or part of the base within the box and a closed condition to provide a substantial enclosure of the media storage disc. The disc is supported intermediate and parallel to the base and the lid when in the closed condition. A security device is provided in juxtaposition to the media storage disc and the lid, the security device including a means to maintain a separation between the lid and the rosette member in order to prevent the rosette being actuated by the deflection of the lid towards the base member.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for holding a compact disk. The device relies on the central hole of a disk and provides a body portion which includes a disk support member onto which the disk can rest. At least two members each pivotably dependent from and connected to said base a flexible arm extending downwardly from said disk support member provide a disk locating means receivable in the central hole of said disk. Integrally formed with the members are disk lifting arms which extend outwardly from each said member. By way of an actuating means movement of the members from a disk locating condition to a disk released condition is achievable whereby when a disk is supported on said disk support member, and pressure is applied to said actuating means, the members move toward each other to release the disk locating means from the central hole and simultaneously the disk lifting arms displace the disk upwardly from said disk support means.

Abstract: A case for holding two compact discs or the like includes a front cover part (12), a rear cover part (14) and a carrier part (18). The front and rear cover parts are pivotally coupled along one wall of the case, and the carrier part is pivotally mounted between the cover parts near or at the above one edge of the case. The case when closed has approximately the same thickness as a standard single CD case. The carrier part has retaining tabs (44a, 44b) for retaining a compact disc adjacent each of two opposite faces (38, 40) of the carrier part. The front and rear cover parts may comprise the front and rear parts of a standard single CD case, with the conventional fixed CD carrying part omitted.
