  • Patent number: 8386557
Abstract: The invention is a method for processing a packet in a wireless network. The method includes the acts of receiving a data packet having data therein, and associating the data with a software application. In addition, the method processes information in a wireless network by receiving a user input at a wireless client, converting information indicative of the user input into data transferable as at least one data packet, and transmitting the data packet via a wireless protocol. The method may also update a wireless client display by receiving a video packet via a wireless protocol, and changing at least one pixel to implement the display information received in the video packet.

  • Patent number: 8258748
Abstract: A computer-based processing system (e.g., host server) is operable for receiving historical device operation information (power consumption data) collected during operation of the remote battery-operated device in accordance with a first set of operating parameters. The first set of operating parameters enable operation of the battery-operated device in a first operating mode. The processing system calculates an observed battery life for the device based on the received historical power consumption data and a power capacity value representing a power capacity of the battery resident in the device. This observed battery life may be output to a user and used to determine whether the device will meet a predetermined operational life. If not, parameters for the device can be modified and a new projected battery life calculated (simulation), with the new modified parameters controlling power consumption in the device.

  • Patent number: 8254868
Abstract: A remote battery-operated device operates in accordance with a first set of operating parameters. During operation, power consumption information is generated and transmitted via a data network to a remote location for later use. In one embodiment, the remote location transmits one or more modified parameters back to the battery-operated device which control subsequent operation of the device. In this manner, power consumption within the device may be controlled to achieve a predetermined or desired operating lifetime.

  • Publication number: 20110309977
Abstract: A mobile tracking device is provided that monitors or measures one or more signals from GPS satellites and remote wireless base stations during a GPS acquisition process and a registration process, and terminates the process(es) prior to reaching a default timeout when the signals do not meet a predetermined threshold or value. Instead of continuing the acquisition and/or registration process for the full timeout period when the received signals (if any) indicate there is a low probability of successfully completing the particular process, the tracking device early terminates the process(es). This saves or reduces power by preventing the continued operation of the particular process when it is likely to be unsuccessful.

  • Publication number: 20100202451
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that promote asynchronous communication through customized Internet protocol headers. This asynchronous communication is promoted by encoding additional information into the header of at least one data packet. The formatting and content of the packet header may be determined through an application programming interface (API). In addition, the header of this data packet may be of a variable length. The length of the data packet may be dependent upon the requirements of the API. In some embodiments, the header comprises sufficient information that, when interpreted by the API, promotes asynchronous communication.

Abstract: A router receives data packets from a remote M2M device and routes all or a portion of the data to one or more servers for further processing. Routing is determined based on the application layer data (data or data type) within the packet. For example, in a GPS tracking device, the data packet (or certain data within the packet) is routed to a first server when the data is of a first type or according to specific rule governing routing based upon some attribute.
