  • Patent number: 11471931
Abstract: A die (1) for mounting in an associated die holder (20) for the production of heads on elongate bodies such as nails or screws. The die has a body (2) with a top surface (3) provided with a through-going groove (4) for receiving and holding an elongate body longitudinally in said groove. Furthermore, the die has a recess (5) on one side merging into the groove (4) at one end of the groove (4) suitable for forming the head of a nail or screw. The die has a side surface portion, e.g. conical, shaped for press fit by contact with a corresponding inner surface portion of a bore or hole (30) in the associated die holder. Further, a second side surface portion (9), e.g. a plane portion, of the die serves to engage with a corresponding inner surface portion of the bore or hole of the die holder. Hereby, it is ensured, that angular orientation of the groove (4) is fixed relative to the die holder (20), and it has been proven that the two different side surface portions of the die, e.g.

  • Patent number: 5626522
Abstract: In a method of making a head on an elongate blank (26), the blank (26) is moved into a die (16) having a bottom stop (28) such that part of the blank (26) extends outside the die (16) end opposite the bottom stop (28). The protruding part of the blank (26) is engaged by a pre-upsetting bushing (25) positioned in extension of the die (16) and a punch (27) is slidably movable in the pre-upsetting bushing. The bushing (25) and the die (16) are moved away from each other during the latter part of the deforming procedure. The movement of both the punch (27) and the bushing (25) with respect to the die (16) is positively controlled so that the bushing (25) and the die (16) are moved away from each other at the latter part of the deforming procedure, while the punch (27) continues to press against the blank in a direction toward the die (16).

  • Patent number: 5547424
Abstract: In a method of making an elongate object (49) with a head at one end and a point at the other end, a blank (49) is placed in a die (50) having a through-going channel, following which the head end is subjected to axial pressure by a tool (52), while a stop member (55) is kept engaged with the die (50) at its other end. A pre-formed head is initially provided on the blank (49) so that the head has an excess of material with respect to the size of the final head. A cavity (56) is formed in the stop member and is in extension of the through channel. When blank (49) is subjected to axial pressure the tool (52) causes flow of material in the shank of the blank (49) so that blank material flows into the cavity (56) of the stop member.

  • Patent number: 5542276
Abstract: A method of ejecting an elongate blank (57) from a through bore in a die (58) in which one end of the blank (57) has been formed with a head by a tool. Ejector rods (60, 62) are successively moved into the die (58) against the other end of the blank. A first ejector rod (60), short with respect to the length of the die (58), moves the blank (57) a relatively short distance, and then the blank (57) is completely ejected using ejector rod (62) having substantially the same length as the die (58). A control unit (63) is placed in facing relation to the formed head of the elongate blank at a predetermined distance from the formed head. The control unit determines whether the formed head conforms to a predetermined geometrical condition thereof, specifically by forming the control unit with a slot detector (64) having the same shape as a slot formed in the head.

  • Patent number: 5524471
Abstract: In a method of making screws, rivets or similar objects from a metal wire (6) the wire (6) is moved through a stationary cropping bushing (14) forwardly to a movable cropping bushing (24) present in a receiving position, following which the movable cropping bushing (24) is moved away from the receiving position substantially transversely to the axial direction of the wire to release a blank from the wire (6). The movable cropping bushing (24, 25) is then moved together with the released blank (26) further on to a discharge position, in which a punch (27) is adapted to move the blank (26) partly into a die (16) and to compress the blank (26) sufficiently to pre-upset it by cold flowing in the region between the die (16) and the movable cropping bushing (25).

  • Patent number: 5020353
Abstract: A method of machining an oblong workpiece, which is placed substantially radially in a holding ring and is deformed by cooperation with a roller rotating in the holding ring. In connection with machining of a relatively large amount of material, the workpiece is caused to cooperate with a plurality of differently shaped areas on the surface of the roller. The method is performed by a machine which comprises a rotating holding ring for substantially radial retention of the workpieces. The machine comprises a rotating roller which is placed inside the holding ring and is adapted to machine the radially inwardly directed end of the workpieces. At least two differently shaped types of the machining areas are provided along the surface of the roller, said areas being so disposed that the various types are present radially opposite a workpiece in a predetermined succession at least at the same time as the holding ring performs a corresponding number of entire revolutions.
