Patent number: 8717550Abstract: The invention relates to a method for detecting biological material in an airstream, in which method the airstream is fed with the aid of sampling devices, a light beam is emitted towards the airstream, a fluorescence signal depicting the fluorescence of the particle is created, a scattering signal depicting the scattering of the light of the particle is created, the fluorescence signal and the scattering signal are converted into discrete values, and an alarm value is defined. The discrete values are recorded cumulatively as hit points in an at least 2-dimensional measurement space equipped with selected dimensions, at least one index area is preselected from the measurement space, a cumulative index is calculated at an index frequency from the hit points accumulated on the each preselected index area, and an alarm value, showing the presence of a selected biological material, is defined from the indices by using a preselected criterion.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2011Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Environics OyInventors: Kauko Janka, Jorma Keskinen, Matti Putkiranta, Sampo Saari, Katja Bengtsson

Patent number: 8408052Abstract: The invention relates to equipment for concentrating and analyzing components contained in a flowing medium, and an analyzing method applying said equipment. The analyzing equipment comprises a concentrator, including a porous sorbent bed, in which components can be absorbed or adsorbed from the medium flow, said bed being electroconductive, so that components can be desorbed to a washing flow by heating the bed with electric current; and to an analyzer defining the desorbed components, said analyzer being for instance a gas detector. According to the invention, the sorbent bed is in the flowing direction widened towards its outlet end, having for example the shape of a truncated cone. By means of the invention, the temperature in the sorbent bed is equalized by transferring heat in the washing flow towards the bed outlet end, which end receives a weaker heating effect per unit of volume, owing to the widening shape of the bed.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2009Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: Environics OyInventors: Janne Petteri Pitkanen, Tero Tapio Hannola, Terhi Marjukka Mattila

Patent number: 8247765Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for measuring gaseous substances, in which the method comprises the stages: ionization of the sample gas in a gas flow, leading of the ionized gas flow through an elongated ion-mobility measuring chamber in the cross-section defined by it, filtering out of ions from the ionized gas flow at a distance from the measuring electrodes, permitting the passage of only the ions travelling from the flow cross-section at the selected point, separation of ions with a different ion mobility, with the aid of a transverse static electric field and at least one measuring-electrode pair arranged along the wall of the measuring chamber.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2009Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: Environics OyInventors: Terhi Mattila, Osmo Anttalainen, Esko Karpanoja, Heikki Paakkanen, Tero Katto, Erkka Saukko
