  • Patent number: 4229304
Abstract: A molded thermoplastic filter plate (10, 50) having a peripheral rim (14, 54) which extends completely around the perimeter of and is integral with an inner web (12, 52) such that inner drainage faces (15, 53) are formed on each side of the plate (10, 50). Each side of the plate (10, 50) is divided into four triangular sectors (20, 22, 24, 26 and 60, 62, 64, 66). The boundary of each sector lies generally along a line extending from the center of the drainage face (15, 53) to a corner of the peripheral rim (14, 54), from the corner of the peripheral rim (14, 54) to an adjacent corner of the peripheral rim (14, 54), and from the adjacent corner back to the center of the drainage face (15, 53). Thus, each sector includes a corresponding side of the peripheral rim (14, 54). A plurality of drainage ribs (28, 68) are molded on the drainage face (15, 53) in each sector such that the ribs (28, 68) of a particular sector are parallel to the corresponding side of the peripheral rim (14, 54) in that particular sector.

  • Patent number: 4227887
Abstract: A three phase process for determining total organic halides in water. The first phase is a sorptive process including passing a liquid through a packed bed of sorptive material thereby removing quantitatively, purgeable and non-purgeable, organic halides and thereafter passing an inorganic halide displacement wash solution through the bed to displace inorganic halides. The second and third phases are a combination combustion and titration whereby organic bromides and other organic halides entering the combustion phase are quantitatively titrated coulometrically.

  • Patent number: 4215637
Abstract: A system for drying and burning wet waste materials includes a multiple hearth furnace having an upper, drying zone and a lower, burning zone. Wet waste material is introduced into the upper, drying zone and dried with a stream of hot air, and the stream of air is then conveyed to a condenser to remove water. The stream of air from the condenser is then conveyed to the center column of the furnace wherein it is heated, and the hot air is then introduced into the lower, burning zone of the furnace to aid combustion. Hot gaseous products of combustion are conveyed from the burning zone to an afterburner, and the gases leaving the afterburner are transferred to a heat exchanger and then discharged. In the heat exchanger a stream of ambient air is heated, and the heated air is then conveyed to the upper, drying zone.

  • Patent number: 4182246
Abstract: The following disclosure teaches ways and means for incinerating organic materials in a multiple hearth furnace equipped with an afterburner. In the furnace, the wastes are pyrolyzed in an oxygen deficient atmosphere which is regulated to only partially complete the oxidation of the organic substances which are pyrolyzed from the wastes. In the lower part of the furnace fixed carbon is substantially burned. In the afterburner, air is introduced to complete the oxidation of the partially oxidized substances carried by gases and vapors from the furnace. The air supply to the afterburner is controlled so that, at temperatures above a predetermined temperature, the quantity of air introduced is increased with increasing temperatures and is decreased with decreasing temperatures.
