Patent number: 10076775Abstract: A tracked, self-propelled machine for laying a film and depositing ballast on it to cover a landfill or other ground area. The machine (20) has a ballast box (28) with a reciprocating slat floor (38) and an end gate (34) for holding the ballast (50). A ballast distribution module (58) at the back of the ballast box has a pair of conveyors (68, 70) separated by a gap (72). A roll of film (96) is held by a film roll support mechanism (94) at the back of the machine for unwinding onto the ground surface as the machine moves forward. Ballast is moved to the back of the box by the reciprocating slat floor and is released from an opening (52) under the end gate onto the conveyors and into the gap for deposition onto the laid film.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2017Date of Patent: September 18, 2018Assignee: EPI Environmental Products Inc.Inventors: Davie W. Eng, John D. Mohr, Jr.

Patent number: 9440268Abstract: A machine (20) for laying a film (122) on a ground surface such as a landfill has a pair of opposed, support arms (84) each having a respective film roll support mechanism (94). In some embodiments the support arms are pivotable. Each film roll support mechanism (94) has a moveable arm (102) with a film roll support bracket (106), and a hydraulic system (98, 104) controllable by an operator of the machine for retracting and extending the moveable arm (102). The machine has means (120, 124) for holding the roll (96) of film between the brackets (106) for unwinding the film onto the ground. The machine may include a film cutter assembly (154) for cutting the laid film.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2014Date of Patent: September 13, 2016Assignee: EPI ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCTS INC.Inventors: Randall J. Kozak, Justin T. J. Bond, Paul A. Rempel, Stephen P. Deakin, Lynn M. Jensen, Kathleen M. Gregoire, Ryan H. Murchie

Patent number: 6267535Abstract: An apparatus having at least one rotatably mounted storage container (44, 45), at least two outlet openings (48, 49, 51, 52) in the container from which material within the container may be dispersed as the container rotates such that a discrete amount of material is dispensed from each outlet once per rotation of the container, the openings being located at longitudinally spaced locations in the container, a respective metering means (69, 71) associated with each said opening for collecting the discrete amount of material and for dispersing the discrete amount of material as the container is caused to rotate and a roll of material (31) carried by the apparatus and mounted to pay out material from the roll as the apparatus is transported over a surface whereby the discrete amounts of material dispensed from the container are deposited at spaced locations onto the material from the roll to anchor the material from the roll relative to the surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1999Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: EPI Environmental Products Inc.Inventors: John L Brauer, David K L Noller, Jonathan A N Harris, Russell B Brown

Patent number: 5854304Abstract: The present invention is directed to an additive degradable/compostable package, the combination of a metal carboxylate and an aliphatic poly hydroxy-carboxyl acids, which is added to polyolefin resins in the production of specific products. The addition of the additive degradable/compostable package produces a packaging product which is degradable/compostable. The additive package may include calcium oxide (CaO) to make the modified polyolefin resin more processable. Further, stabilizers or oxidizers may be added to the additive package. The additive package is specifically modified or tailored to the application of the packaging product, e.g. trash bag, compost bag, merchant bag, diaper liner, wrapping film, agricultural film, landfill cover or foamed planks. The present invention further includes the method or process of producing the degradable/compostable concentrates and the improvement of the process of making the degradable/compostable packaging products by the addition of calcium oxide (CaO).Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1997Date of Patent: December 29, 1998Assignee: EPI Environmental Products Inc.Inventors: Rodrigo A. Patent number: 5620281Abstract: The present invention is directed to a machine which is attached to the compactor to lay film over the face of a landfill. More specifically, the present invention is directed to a machine and the method for laying a polyolefin film over the face of a landfill and distributing available solids such as dirt, clay, gravel or other solid material inside the edges of the film to hold the film against the face of the landfill.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1996Date of Patent: April 15, 1997Assignee: EPI Environmental Products Inc.Inventors: Arville J. Lammers, Rodrigo A. Garcia, Joseph G. Gho

Patent number: 5565503Abstract: The present invention is directed to melt blown polyolefin film which is produced cheaply by melt blowing polyolefin resins which contain 25 to 60 wt % fillers selected from the fillers including an inorganic carbonate, synthetic carbonates, nepheline syenite, talc, magnesium hydroxide, aluminum trihydrate, diatomaceous earth, mica, natural or synthetic silicas and calcined clays or mixtures thereof, having a particle size less than 150 mesh.A further aspect of the present invention is directed to polyolefin resins, especially polyethylene, which are chemically degradable by the incorporation of the combination of the above group of fillers and a metal carboxylate. The metal carboxylates of the present invention are inclusive of a large number of metals, such as cerium, cobalt, iron, and magnesium.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 1995Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: EPI Environmental Products Inc.Inventors: Rodrigo A.
