Abstract: A device for displaying indicia on an escalator. The device includes a plate for attachment to an escalator step. The plate is of a transparent or translucent material and is shaped and arranged to complement the external profile of the step. The plate includes a front face and a back face, with an internal slot or space therebetween, into which a sign or other sheet material can be inserted and held.

Abstract: A coverplate for attachment over a sign or the like on the riser of an escalator step, having a profile complementary to the riser and to the trailing edge of the step below, comprised of a transparent polycarbonate material with a metal casting incorporated into it along an edge, to provide strength and rigidity and a wear-resistant rim to the coverplate.

Abstract: A method for modifying an escalator step having an external profile including a substantially smooth riser face and a substantially straight rear edge. A part of the riser face is replaced by fixing a backing plate behind the riser and a cover corresponding to the removed part of the riser face and further including a plurality of cleats and channels therein.

Abstract: A passenger conveying device has a plurality of interacting movable steps, at least one of the steps having a cover plate fastened to an exterior surface thereof. The cover plate is fastened by a projecting flange adjacent an edge of said cover plate and a complementary channel in which the flange is engaged. The cover plate is pivotally movable relative to the step on that engaged flange and channel. At least one fastener passes through an aperture in the cover plate spaced away from that edge, to fasten onto the step. The cover plate is light transmissive, and the step displays indicia behind the cover plate.

Abstract: An escalator or travelator is provided with a plurality of advertising signs on the riser or step of the escalator or travelator. The sign is provided with a transparent cover which is positioned on the step so as to not interfere with the relative movement of adjacent steps on the escalator/travelator or the cyclic movement of the escalator/travelator itself.
