  • Patent number: 4966274
Abstract: The walking beam assembly of the forging presses operates in several movement phases including a lifting movement, advance movement, lowering movement, opening movement, return movement, and closing movement. Step motors control driving members which perform individual moving processes in the individual movement phases. In turn, driving member processors drive the step motors by frequencies changing with time. When the velocity or frequency of the step motors are plotted on the ordinate of a graph and time along the abscissa of the graph, a trapezoidal graph form is produced along the time (t) line of the graph for each of the movement phases. Each trapezoidal form includes a rising flank and a falling flank with some of the flanks for adjacent driving member phase movement overlapping in time. The opening and return movement phases form a fixed cycle having a length predetermined and constant for all cycle lengths.

  • Patent number: 4873860
Abstract: The lifting beam assembly for transporting workpieces from work station to work station in a forming press includes a pair of transport beam members for grasping workpieces to be transported within the forming press. A first drive mechanism executes vertical movement to raise and lower the transport beam members. A second drive mechanism executes longitudinal movement of the transport beam members in a direction parallel to the direction traveled from work station to work station. A third drive mechanism executes transverse movement of the transport beam members. Each of the three drive mechanisms include movement actuating devices for effecting the respective vertical, longitudinal and transverse movements. An actuating shaft is secured at one end thereof for hydraulic actuation by an electro-hydraulic booster. It is coupled at the other end thereof to the movement actuating device for effecting the particular respective movement of the transport beam members.

  • Patent number: 4671095
Abstract: The assembly and the invention accomplishes a method for forging work-pieces by drop forging. The method comprises the steps of providing a blank having a given volume of material corresponding at least to the volume of the work-piece to be produced. The drop forging assembly includes a swage having cooperating swage portions corresponding at least to the length of the work-piece to be produced. The blank is first forged along a predetermined portion of its length between the cooperating swage portions. Then, the remaining section of the blank is transported to the otherside of the same swage and forged between the cooperative swage portions. Devices are provided at either side of the operational faces of the swage so that a continuous movement of blanks, partially forged work-pieces and finished work-pieces may be effected in a continuous manner.

  • Patent number: 4606217
Abstract: The invention is a shifting mechanism for a screw press. The screw press includes a shifting coupling for the press spindle, a drive mechanism for continuously rotating a flywheel, a coupling mechanism operatively located between the flywheel and the shifting mechanism which is dependent upon angular deceleration and is controlled for the purpose of actuating the coupling mechanism. The shifting mechanism comprises a hydraulically actuatable shifting coupling. A hydraulically prestressed valve is located between the reaction mass and a rotating coupling portion that is connected to the flywheel. The coupling mechanism is controlled through the use of a hydraulic line and the prestressed valve is affected by the hydraulic pressure medium in that line acting upon the coupling mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4596131
Abstract: The assembly is used to guide a movably mounted stamper member in a hot forming machine wherein the guide surfaces located between the stamper member and the machine frame are disposed in an X-arrangement with respect to each other. The inclined angle of each of the guide surfaces is directed approximately to a common central point. Adjustable ledges or strips are fitted to the guide surfaces for setting the clearance between the stamper member and the machine frame. Stamper side carrier rails and support side carrier rails carry the guide surfaces and are directly formed as a part of the stamper member and the frame or frame stanchions. The adjusting strips used for setting the clearance and the securing means for these strips, run approximately parallel to the guide surface. Thus, the stamper member is directly supported on the surfaces of the machine frame.

  • Patent number: 4520643
Abstract: The assembly for blowing out and spraying dies in a forging press is particularly adapted both to automatically operating and hand operated drop-forging presses. The automatically operating drop forging presses have workpiece transport effected by a walking beam transport system. The blowing and spraying assembly comprises arms having nozzles disposed at the end thereof to be guided into the mold area of the forging press in a timed sequence while avoiding the movement of the press plunger and walking beam transport system when it is being used. The blowing and spraying assembly comprises a carrier means hinged to a four-bar linkage arrangement which has two levers and a carrier member. In a specific embodiment, the ends of the two levers facing away from the carrier member are pivotably mounted to a housing. • Patent number: 4463587
Abstract: The article handling assembly includes a lifting beam having a support with a plurality of workpiece grasping members. The support is moved inwardly and outwardly with respect to the work stations of the forging press. A spraying mechanism is also provided to move inwardly and outwardly with respect to the work stations of the forging press. A control mechanism operates the movement of the lifting beam having the workpiece grasping members effecting movement from one work station to the next. The movement is effected along the length of the forging press work stations outside of the area of the work stations. The movement of the spraying mechanism into and out of the work stations is synchronized with the movement of the workpiece grasping members moving into and out of the work stations to initially grasp workpieces and then to release the workpieces in the next work station. These operations are effectuated while the forging press is in an open position.
