Abstract: A graphical drawing includes maintaining recently drawn strokes in a wet state after the strokes are drawn, causing strokes in a wet state to transition to a dry state based on passage of time, proximity of other recently drawn strokes, and/or explicit user input directing that at least some wet strokes be transitioned to the dry state, and grouping strokes in the dry state for future user manipulation based at least in part on how the strokes transitioned from the wet state to the dry state. Wet ink strokes may transition from the wet state to the dry state in response to not adding any new wet ink strokes for a predetermined amount of time. The predetermined amount of time may be twelve hundred milliseconds.

Abstract: Assigning attributes to an image includes determining a particular capturing device used to obtain the image and detecting attributes of the image based on image data, where an expected location and content of the image data varies according to a particular set of rules that is chosen based on the particular capturing device used and/or a type of document represented by the image. The capturing device may be a scanner, a facsimile device, or a camera. The image may have an expected form factor. Some of the attributes of the image may be fully recognized and some of the attributes may be partially recognized and, for at least some of the partially recognized attributes, a lookup table may be used to clarify unrecognized portions thereof. A user may be prompted to facilitate identifying partially recognized attributes. Partially recognized attributes may be indicated to a user with question marks.

Abstract: Providing analytics information from a cloud service includes maintaining an analytics database that is separate from data and servers accessed by users of the cloud service, selectively pushing information from the cloud service to the analytics database, where data and servers accessed by users of the cloud service are inaccessible for direct access by the analytics database, and allowing users limited access to the analytics database, where users of the analytics information that are accessing the analytics database are restricted from accessing data and servers of the cloud service. The analytics database may include a first database of adapted database records and a second database of dynamic logs of service related events. The adapted database records may be initially formed using the data and servers accessed by users of the cloud service prior to being pushed to the analytics database.

Abstract: Presenting items in a two-dimensional access pane includes presenting a first set of icons arranged contiguously and in two dimensions of the access pane, where each of the icons corresponds to an item and at least some of the items are container icons that represent containers that contain other items and expanding at least one of the container icons to show a first container pane having icons corresponding to items contained in a corresponding container, where icons in the first container pane are arranged contiguously and in two dimensions of the first container pane. At least some of the icons in the first container pane may be container icons that represent containers that contain other items. The items may be files in a file system provided in connection with a personal computer that runs Macintosh OS, MS Windows, and Linux. The items may be data in a database system.

Abstract: Integrating an application and a chat session includes a first user identifying content from the application, wherein the application is independent of any chat session, the first user initiating the chat session with at least a second user that is remote from the first user by transmitting the content from the first user to the second user, where the first and second user establish the chat session in response to the content being transmitted, and the first user and the second user sharing the content in connection with the chat session. The content may be a portion of a photograph, a portion of an image, a portion of text from a document, and/or a portion of a screen. The portion may be automatically identified following the user pointing and marking up the content. The first user may mark up the content before transmitting it to the second user.

Abstract: Sharing content includes verifying occurrence of an event, determining participants of the event, gathering related content generated by the participants, where the related content corresponds to the event, and disseminating the related content to the participants. The event may be a business meeting. Verifying occurrence of an event may include determining scheduled participants, scheduled location, and scheduled time of the event using an electronic calendar of one of the scheduled participants. Participants may include the scheduled participants and other participants that are not listed in the electronic calendar where the other participants attend the event. Verifying occurrence of an event may also include confirming that at least an event organizer is at the scheduled location at the scheduled time and there is at least one other one of the participants. The content may include documents, photos, scanned images, audio clips, video clips, types notes, and/or handwritten notes.

Abstract: Managing contact information includes a first user identifying at least one other user in response to the first user encountering the other user, the first user obtaining contact information from the other user, where the contact information is transmitted to a mobile device of the first user, automatically supplementing the contact information from the other user with additional information about at least one of: additional information about the other user provided from outside the mobile device, a record of encounters between the first user and the other user, and a record of other people present at encounters between the first user and the other user, and storing, in a personal contact space of the first user, the contact information from the other user and the additional information, where the personal contact space is provided by storage of the mobile device.

Abstract: An electronic note management system is provides that includes a storage component, a user-interface, and one or more navigation features. The storage component maintains a plurality of records, and the user-interface component renders a plurality of electronic notes from the plurality of records. The user-interface is configured to display a given group of two or more notes in the plurality of notes as a sequenced series while the two or more notes are in a rendered state. One or more navigation features provided with the user-interface to enable a user to navigate (i) from a first note in the group to a next note in the group that is adjacent to the first note in the sequenced series (ii) while the first note and the next note are in the rendered state.

Abstract: Determining experts based on a search query of a user includes identifying items in a content collection that correspond to the search query, determining authors of the items, and ranking the authors according to relevance to the search query for each of the items for each of the authors. Determining experts based on a search query of a user may also include complementing the query with additional public search results prior to identifying the items. Complementing the query may include using an external data source to search based on the query. The external data source may be selected from the group consisting of Google Search, Yahoo Search, and Microsoft Bing. Determining experts based on a search query of a user may also include presenting the authors to the user in order of ranking The query may be a natural language query.

Abstract: Protecting a fragment of a document includes automatically detecting the fragment without user intervention based on the content of the fragment and/or the context of the fragment within a set of documents, selectively encrypting the fragment to prevent unauthorized access, and providing an alternative view of the fragment that prevents viewing and access of content corresponding to the fragment unless a decryption password is provided. Automatically detecting the fragment may include detecting numbers and alphanumeric sequences of sufficient length that do not represent commonly known abbreviations, detecting generic terms, detecting proper names, detecting terms signifying a type of content, detecting mutual location of terms and sensitive content, and/or detecting user defined terms. The generic terms may correspond to password, passcode, credentials, user name, account, ID, login, confidential, and/or sensitive. The proper names may be names of financial organizations and security organizations.

Abstract: A computer learning system includes a computer screen, a cover that selectively covers and reveals different amounts of the computer screen and a computer processor that senses an amount of the computer screen that is revealed by the cover. The processor causes a first learning segment to be displayed on the computer screen in response to the cover revealing a first portion of the computer screen and causes a second learning segment to be displayed on the computer screen in response to the cover revealing a second portion of the computer screen. The first learning segment may be a question and the second learning segment may be an answer to the question. The computer processor and the computer screen may be provided by a tablet computer. The table computer may be an iPad® 2 tablet computer.

Abstract: Handling event data received by a mobile device includes filtering out at least a subset of event data based on pre-determined filtering rules, forming groups of event data by grouping at least some of the event data that has not been filtered out based on pre-determined grouping rules, and storing, based on pre-determined auto-filing rules, at least one of: groups of event data and non-filtered event data that is not included with any groups of event data. The event data may include photos, videos, recorded voice notes, phone calls, voice mails, user location data, messaging data, calendar entries, email messages, wireless data transmissions, and/or events scheduled from software applications and online services. The filtering rules may be based on a filtering criteria such as time, location, keyword match, semantic similarity, and/or relations to known events.

Abstract: Establishing a connection between mobile devices includes arranging a first one of the mobile devices to display a sequence of images that are received by a second one of the mobile devices. The first one of the mobile devices displays a first sequence of images that are received by the second one of the mobile devices. The second one of the mobile devices displays a second sequence of images that are received by the first one of the mobile devices. The first and second sequences of images establish contact between the mobile devices. The mobile devices exchanging images to determine mutually available data transmission techniques following establishing contact between the mobile devices.

Abstract: Identifying at least one object in data for photographed images includes detecting a reference pattern in the data, locating the reference pattern in a table of patterns, and identifying the at least one object according to the reference pattern. The pattern may be located on the at least one object. The at least one object may be a greeting card. The pattern may categorize the greeting card by season and/or occasion. The pattern may identify a sender of the greeting card. The pattern may be provided on an item that is separate from the at least one object. The table of patterns may include a record for at least some of the patterns and the record may include additional information associated with the pattern. The additional information may include tasks that are performed in connection with the pattern. The additional information may include geometric and color parameters of the pattern.
