  • Patent number: 4874565
Abstract: A method wherein an article is molded of liquid plastisol in a mold having mold heaters disposed adjacent the backside of a mold surface for controlling the temperature over respective first and second areas of the mold surface. First and second heating and cooling circuits are associated with each mold. To obtain liquid plastisol coating, the mold is filled by apparatus including a removable insert that reduces the quantity of plastisol that is used in the process to reduce the cycle time required for part molding. In one process, plastisol is pumped into and is removed from the mold with the mold insert in place. In another process the mold insert is removed from the mold and an intake tube remains in the mold to pump out excess material.

  • Patent number: 4726396
Abstract: The fluid valve assembly includes a hollow movable valve having an open-ended tubular fluid filter in the longitudinal bore of the valve and overlying transverse fluid discharge passages in the hollow valve to filter fluid before it flows through the transverse discharge passages from inside the valve. Downstream of the tubular fluid filter, the hollow valve includes one or more fluid metering passages which are moved relative to a valve seat to control a second flow of fluid from inside the valve. The increased fluid flow longitudinally in the valve bore when the valve is moved from the seat to effect the second fluid flow exerts a washing action on the tubular fuel filter to remove debris or foreign matter therefrom and carry same out through relatively large fluid passages not prone to clogging.

  • Patent number: 4725705
Abstract: Electric discharge machining of workpieces on a mass production basis is accomplished with adaptive feedback control to achieve accurate machining of a feature to a specified size. After machining a feature, it is measured to obtain a value which represents its size. An EDM process parameter is adjusted in accordance with the measurement value so that the next feature will be machined with the size closer to the specified size. Multiple features are machined in succession and the measurement values of successive features are analyzed to determine the trend of change of the values with respect to the specified size. The parameter, such as spark energy, is adjusted in a sense which tends to cause the succeeding features to machined more accurately to the specified size.

  • Patent number: 4722678
Abstract: Apparatus for manufacturing thin walled hollow parts such as automobile crash pads from dry thermoplastic powder includes a louver type valve system in the open end of a powder charge box and means for joining the charge box end-to-end with an open-ended heated mold for rotation so that the charge box will be inverted above the mold at the end of an upward swing movement during which the valve is closed to prevent flow of powder to the mold. Once the charge box is fully inverted the valve is opened to evenly distribute the powder into the mold by gravity flow to prevent excessive build-up of wall thickness on the mold surfaces.
