  • Patent number: 5972059
Abstract: A filter assembly for use in filtering air in a dust collecting system has a pleated conical filter element which is mounted within a pleated cylindrical filter element. The cylindrical filter element is attached at one end to a base member and at the other end to a top member. The base portion of the conical element is attached to the base member. The apex of the conical member is closed off by a brace which has brackets thereon for supporting the conical member on the inner wall of the cylindrical member. Air to be cleaned is flowed into an aperture formed in the base portion and flows into the inner portion of the conical element with various portions of the air flowing through the filter walls of the conical element into the space between such walls and the cylindrical element. Air to be cleaned is also fed through the side portion of the cylindrical element into the space between the conical element and he cylindrical element with the filtered air being fed out through an aperture in the top member.

  • Patent number: 4865636
Abstract: An interlocking wedge for pleated paper filter elements of the type having a plurality of pleated paper filter panels secured in a frame in a zig-zag configuration with plural apexes adjacent both the upstream and downstream ends of the frame forming plural wedge shaped air inlet and outlet spaces and a plurality of elongated V-shaped spacing wedges disposed in the downstream wedge shaped air outlet spaces adjacent the panels wherein the downstream end of each of the wedges extends transversely through one of the outlet openings in the downstream end of the frame and define recessed areas so as to provide an interference fit between said portions of the wedges in the downstream end of the frame to interlock the wedges with the frame and thereby prevent lateral separation of the wedges with respect to the frame upon the element being subject to uneven loading.

  • Patent number: 4786293
Abstract: A control device for an air filter or dust collector equipped with a reverse pulse air cleaning system wherein the pressure differential across the air filter is continuously monitored and compared to a reference set point pressure differential. When the pressure differential across the air filter is greater than or equal to the reference set point pressure differential, a cleaning cycle is initiated. At the end of the cleaning cycle a new pressure differential across the air filter is measured and compared to the pressure differential before cleaning. If the new pressure differential is lower, it is stored and another cleaning cycle is initiated. This cycle is repeated until the "after" pressure differential is equal to or greater than the "pre-cleaning" pressure differential. At this point, a new reference set point pressure differential is calculated and the initial monitoring cycle is repeated until the pressure differential across the filter becomes equal to or greater than the new reference set point.

  • Patent number: 4659466
Abstract: A quick release cover assembly for a cylindrical liquid filter housing which includes an outer cover plate pivotally mounted on the filter housing, an inner cover plate having a beveled cylindrical side wall and being carried by the outer plate and an O-ring which is disposed about the beveled wall of the inner plate adjacent the under side of the outer plate. A plurality of locking dogs are carried by the upper surface of the outer plate which are adapted to be inserted and rotated within a corresponding plurality of L-shaped slots adjacent the open end of the filter housing. A threaded fastener is provided for drawing the inner and outer plates together upon the locking dogs being so disposed within the slots in the housing so as to press the O-ring outwardly against the interior wall of the filter housing thereby releasably sealing the cover assembly to the housing.

  • Patent number: 4499733
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an emergency shutdown mechanism for a turbocharged diesel locomotive to prevent overspeeding of the turbocharger under engine malfunction conditions. The shutdown mechanism includes an air flow shutoff plate slidably mounted for selective closing of the air intake end of the turbocharger, a plurality of sensors mounted in the air box about the pistons for detecting increases of temperature and/or pressure within the air box and means activated by the sensors in response to such increases of temperature and/or pressure for moving the shutoff plate across the air intake end of the turbocharger and preventing air flow therethrough. The cessation of air flow through the turbocharger causes the engine to immediately shutdown and prevents overspeeding of the turbocharger.

  • Patent number: 4322231
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a locking mechanism for releasably mounting a row of filter elements in sealing engagement within a filter assembly. The locking mechanism includes a pair of spaced longitudinal bars, substantially semicircular in cross section, which are pivotly mounted within the filter assembly below the lateral edges of mounting plates affixed to the upper ends of the filter elements such that a row of filter elements depend from and are slideably removeable along the longitudinal flat side of the spaced parallel bars. A locking handle is affixed to the outwardly extending ends of each of the parallel bars such that rotation of the handle causes the curvilinear surface of the parallel bars increasingly to bear against the underside of the mounting plate and urge said filter element upwardly into said sealing engagement with an interior portion of the filter assembly.

  • Patent number: 4319897
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a jet pump including an air nozzle and an ejector tube which is mounted above the open clean air end of a cylindrical pleated paper filter element in an aspirated air filter assembly for use in back pulsing air through the interior of the filter element for removing dust therefrom. The ejector tube is of a cylindrical constant radius configuration having a flared open upper end. As a jet of air is back pulsed through the flared upper end of the ejector tube, the configuration of the tube causes the surrounding air to be entrained and accelerated downwardly into the tube where it is diffused and directed into the interior of the filter element, blowing the dust off the cylindrical wall thereof.
