Abstract: This relates to a mailing envelope which may be utilized by one of the express mail services. The envelope is distinguished over existing envelopes by being provided with two closure flaps which permit the envelope to be utilized twice and possibly as a return envelope. In the first usage, the first closure flap is folded to an out of the way position beneath the second closure flap and becomes usable only after the second closure flap has been removed. The envelope also includes a removable label panel to which the second closure flap is initially bonded and is removed with the second closure flap when the envelope is first opened so as to permit the use of the second closure flap in the reclosing of the envelope and also to provide new surface to which mailing instructions, etc. may be applied.

Abstract: A clamshell type carton bottom having integrally connected thereto a domed top with upper portions of side and front panels of the carton bottom defining seats on which there are seated seat members carried by side and front panels of the top and reversely turned so as to slope upwardly and outwardly while the side and front panels slope downwardly and outwardly. Each side panel of the bottom adjacent the front panel of the bottom is provided with a cut line which defines stop means so as to limit the movement of the top into the bottom when the carton is being closed. Further, the bottom front panel is provided with a locking flap which carries a locking tab which engages over the front seat member of the top to lock the top in place relative to the bottom.

Abstract: This relates to a wraparound carrier for the packaging of articles in two rows. Primarily the articles are bottles. The wraparound carrier is provided at each end with a trap gusset and a pair of end panels. The gusset is specifically configurated to fold beneath an arched shaped top of a conventional wraparound container so as to effect the maintaining of the formed configuration of the upper part of the wraparound carrier while holding the associated end panels in a planar relationship. Not only does the relationship between the gusset and end panels at each end of the carrier provide for a complete closing of the carrier such as desired in the packaging of certain beers and other products, but also even after the carrier has been opened and the bottles or like articles removed therefrom, the gusset and the associated end panels cooperate with one another to maintain the shape of the erected carrier so that the opened carrier may have replaced therein the used bottles for return.

Abstract: A tray particularly useful by fast food establishments and the like for serving various products. The tray is formed from a tube formed in a flat state for storage and shipment and being readily erectible. A central portion of the top of such tube is provided with suitable product receiving openings which may open into a receptacle or which receive drink cups. At one or more ends of the tray, there is a compartment which is defined by an end of the initial tube which is pivoted from a longitudinal position to an upstanding position. The tray may have one or more internal stiffeners to prevent the collapse thereof when in tube form and stacked. Numerous embodiments are envisioned although only a limited number of alternatives is specifically disclosed.

Abstract: A basket carrier of the type including a base having a plurality of handles projecting upwardly therefrom, the handles also functioning as partitions so as to divide the base into a plurality of individual spaces for receiving cups, bottles and the like. The same basic basket carrier can be formed from two different blanks. It has been found that by providing two different blanks, a full nesting of the blanks may be obtained so that the blanks may be formed from a web with substantially no loss, thereby reducing the amount of paperboard required to form the blanks. The resultant carriers differ primarily in that one carrier includes one double handle and two single handle arrangements and the other carrier has two double handle arrangements. The carriers differ also in the manner in which the various portions are connected together by way of different arrangements of glue flaps.

Abstract: This relates to a carton for packaging a product which is to be processed in a microwave. The carton includes a top wall which is hinged to a portion of a rear wall and has a glue flap bonded to a removable portion of a front wall. The carton is formed of a delaminatable web with the top wall having transversely spaced score lines in opposite faces thereof whereby the carton is openable by removing the removable portion of the front wall and then peeling a major portion of the top wall from border portions thereof to open the carton. After the product has been removed, the top wall is swingable into the interior of the carton to form a support platform for the product. The support platform is positioned a predetermined distance above the bottom wall of the carton to provide for a maximum efficiency of the heating of the product within a microwave oven.

Abstract: A vending and reclosure device for powder and granular products. The device is formed of two container panels disposed in overlying relation with respect to each other with an inner one of the two panels having dispensing openings therethrough and the outer one of the panels having formed therein a closure flap which is normally initially free at one end and is connected to the outer panel along sides thereof by way of lines of weakening having projecting curved intermediate portions which, when ruptured permit the closure flap to be pivoted at a hinged end thereof out of the plane of the outer panel and away from overlying relation with respect to the dispensing openings in the inner panel. The inner panel is provided with cut lines generally aligned with the lines of weakness. When the closure flap is removed the lines of weakness define curved projections along the opposite sides thereof and the cut lines in the inner panel define shoulders behind which the projections can lock.

Abstract: A multi-cellular carrier which includes a body having ends, sides, a bottom and an open top, and a divider assembly dividing the body into a plurality of cells, the divider assembly being directly integrally connected to one of the ends. The carrier is formed from a blank which includes a body forming blank portion and a divider assembly forming blank portion which are integrally joined together. When the two blank portions are longitudinally aligned, one handle panel may be carried by the divider assembly blank portion for telescoping between two handle panels carried by the body forming blank portion. On the other hand, when the two blank portions are disposed at right angles to one another so as to have an L-shape for internesting of two blanks for economy purposes, the divider assembly forming blank portion will have two handle panels.

Abstract: A carrier for cups. The carrier is formed from a flat blank to have a flat folded state from which it may be readily erected by pressing together on opposite ends. In addition to a base having a bottom, the carrier has an upstanding combined separator and handle. As a result, the upper configuration of the blank is one wherein like blanks in inverted relation and longitudinally shifted may be nested. The nesting may either be a positive nest where there is waste at one end of each of two blanks or two adjacent blanks may be longitudinally and transversely shifted relative to one another to provide a major nesting while having a minimum amount of waste material between two opposed blanks. With this arrangement, the blanks may be formed endlessly in end-to-end relation along an elongated web.

Abstract: An applicator for applying elongated strip members to a moving member. The applicator is particularly adapted to apply handle assemblies to moving closure panels of containers such as cartons. Hot melt adhesive stripes are applied to the moving closure panel and thereafter a handle assembly is applied over the hot melt adhesive. The apparatus includes, in addition for moving containers at a uniform rate and spacing, a hopper overlying the path of movement, a picker device for periodically withdrawing a lowermost handle assembly from the hopper, and a combined guide and presser member for first receiving in guided relation an end of a withdrawn handle member remote from the picker device, and thereafter pressing the handle member against the adhesive strip beginning at the right end of the withdrawn handle assembly.

Abstract: An easy set-up tray wherein in addition to the usual well defined by a tray for receiving food products, there is a top panel for receiving other products, including containers for drinks and the like. Each tray is of a one-piece construction and is provided in a substantially flat knocked-down state. When it is desired to erect or set-up the tray, side panels thereof are grasped and pulled apart with the result that the tray automatically erects and is locked in its erected or set-up position. The top panel is connected to the side panels by reversely foldable connecting panels so as to provide for a rigid structure.

Abstract: This relates to providing internal compression in packages of the type utilizing a wrap around carton. Instead of utilizing locking cut outs provided for receiving articles to be packaged, special compression cuts are formed in the closure panels of a wrap around carton so that the compression cuts are independent of the locking cut outs thereby permitting one chain and lug arrangement to be utilized in conjunction with numerous types of packages. The lugs are carried by compression chains located in a plane below the support plane of the articles to be packaged with the lugs being pivotally mounted on pins and normally having downwardly sloping positions for engaging in the compression cuts when the closure flaps are in their generally vertical depending position. The lugs are swingable upwardly to generally horizontal positions with the closure panels. Each lug carries a finger having a nose particularly configurated for automatically entering and centering within a compression cut.

Abstract: This relates to an end structure for a carton, and more particularly to a carton for packaging a light bulb having a projecting base. The end structure is formed of two pairs of end panels, the first pair of end panels including two opposite disposed generally rectangular end panels having slot-like openings therein disposed in angular relation with respect to the connection between the respective end panel and a side wall of the carton. The other pair of end panels are also oppositely disposed and having sloping side edges disposed at a complimentary angle relative to the angle of the openings with respect to the fold line connecting it to the respective side wall. Each of the second end panels has a projecting tab which is lockable within the respective one of the openings.

Abstract: This relates to a multicell carrier which is advantageously formed from two separate generally rectangular blanks as opposed to a single generally L-shaped blank. By forming the carrier from two separate blanks, each of which is generally rectangular, a maximum board usage may be obtained and at the same time board is available, without waste, for forming handle reinforcing flaps. In addition, by providing two separate blanks and effecting the simultaneous folding of the two blanks, although the two blanks must be joined in the forming of a carrier, greater glue and folding speed is obtainable as compared to the forming of a like carrier from a single L-shaped blank.

Abstract: This relates to a food scoop having a false bottom defining in the bottom portion of the scoop a hidden chamber in which a prize or the like may be hidden. The construction of the scoop is such that it may be supplied in a completed folded state and may be easily erected at the site. Further, the hidden compartment is accessible as the scoop is being erected so that the selected prizes, etc. may be inserted into the compartment before the compartment moves into the bottom of the scoop. One of the sides of the scoop is provided with an easy opening feature so that access may be had to the hidden compartment by the purchaser of the product.

Abstract: This relates to a clasp lock for interlocking two overlapping closure panels of a carton. The clasp lock is made adjustable to compensate for different sizes of articles being packaged in the same carton. In order to effect the adjustment of the lock between the closure panels, the primary locking tab is of a stepped height and the closure panel carrying the primary locking shoulders is cut so that the primary locking shoulders are also stepped with respect to the free edge of the associated closure panel. In the interlocking of the closure panel portions, the primary locking tab will automatically engage the proper primary locking shoulder in accordance with the objects which are being packaged within the carton.

Abstract: This relates to a lock arrangement particularly adapted for use in locking together closure panels of paper board cartons and the like. The lock arrangement utilizes a conventional basic type of lock including a primary locking tab and a secondary locking tab. The primary locking tab engages in a cutout having as part of its boundary a straight line primary locking shoulder. The new feature of the lock arrangement is an arrangement for receiving the secondary locking tab. This arrangement is in the form of a cut line which will define an opening through the associated closure panel and also define a secondary locking ear for engagement beyond a prong on the secondary locking tab. The closure panel in which the cutout and the cut line are formed is provided adjacent the cut line either with an opening or a hinged locking flap with there being between the cutout and either the opening or the locking flap a narrow strap.

Abstract: This relates to a tray which is useful for many purposes and wherein the tray may be shipped in a knocked-down state and is readily erected by an ultimate user manually or automatically. The tray includes a base panel having upstanding side walls which are not connected at their remote ends to one another. The side walls remain in upstanding positions by means of a simple locking flap arrangement. In the original blank state, each side wall is defined along a respective edge of a base panel by an inner sidewall panel and outer sidewall panel, the two sidewall panels being connected together along a fold line and the inner sidewall panel being connected to the base panel along a fold line interrupted at regular intervals by C-shaped caddy cuts. The flat blank is partially erected by the manufacturer by folding the outer sidewall panels beneath the inner sidewall panels and gluing them together in face-to-face relation.
