Abstract: An aluminium cylinder head for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine is formed with precombustion chambers and a cooling chamber. The cooling chamber is delimited in part by the walls of the precombustion chambers and by a base wall the outer surface of which faces into the cylinders of the engine when the head is assembled onto the engine cylinder block. To allow for expansion of the base wall during engine operation, said base wall is provided with transverse slits intermediate the portions of the head corresponding to the engine cylinders.

Abstract: An arrangement for controlling the gearbox of a motor vehicle includes a manually operable control lever and a linkage connecting the lever to a gearbox control shaft projecting from the gearbox casing. In order to prevent unintentional disengagement of a selected gear due to excessive vibrations of the control shaft as the vehicle travels over rough terrain, a damper is provided to damp axial displacements of the control shaft relative to the gearbox casing.

Abstract: An aluminum cylinder head for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine is formed with a cooling chamber and a number of cavities which provide for each cylinder of the engine a precombustion chamber in communication at its upper end with a seat for a fuel injector. Each precombustion chamber and its associated fuel-injector seat are delimited by a wall the outer surface of which faces into the cooling chamber. The cooling chamber is separated by a dividing wall into a lower part adjacent the precombustion chambers and an upper part adjacent the fuel injector seats. Openings are provided in the dividing wall juxtaposed the precombustion chambers so that coolant flowing through said openings between the lower and upper parts of the cooling chamber is constrained to flow against the walls of the precombustion chambers.

Abstract: A cylinder head for a compression-ignition internal combustion engine comprises a lower part of cast iron, an intermediate part of aluminium, and a cap element, also of aluminium. Defined within the cast-iron lower part are precombustion chambers for the engine cylinders, induction and discharge ducts and a cooling chamber. The regions of the head subjected to the highest temperatures during running of the engine are thus formed in the cast-iron part which minimizes difficulties caused by thermal stresses. A breather cavity is defined between the cast-iron lower part and the aluminium intermediate part. The upper surface of the intermediate part is shaped to form an oil bath and is arranged to rotatably support the engine camshaft in this bath. Apertures through the intermediate part serve both to regulate the oil level in the bath and to provide access to fixing bolts securing the lower part of the head to the engine cylinder block.

Abstract: A motor vehicle having a cab which is pivoted frontally to the chassis includes a torsion bar, the reaction moment of which acts through a crank arm and a cam-follower roller on a cam fixed to the base of the cab. The cab is safely and conveniently tiltable since the shape of the cam surface is such that the cab is in neutral equilibrium in any position between its lowered and raised positions.

Abstract: A retaining clamp for an adjustable steering column of a motor vehicle comprises a bracket for mounting beneath the vehicle instrument panel, and a resilient seat member defining a seat for the column having two spaced apart arms extending towards the bracket and engaged between two bracket plates, the arms being tubular and formed with coaxial frusto-conical surfaces about an axis perpendicular to the steering column axis, each surface being engaged with a cooperating frusto-conical surface associated with a respective bracket plate.

Abstract: A fuel feed system for an internal combustion engine, of the type in which a fuel line from a fuel tank contains a fuel feed pump for supplying fuel under pressure to at least one fuel injection pump operating to inject fuel into the internal combustion engine, the injection pump having an outlet for excess fuel connected to a return line leading back to the fuel tank. In this return line there are two branches, one of them containing a heater for heating fuel flowing in that branch of the return line; a solenoid valve selectively energized in dependence on the fuel temperature in the tank causes the fuel to flow in the heater-containing branch of the return line when the fuel temperature in the tank is below a selected minimum. Filters in the fuel feed line are provided with heaters energized in dependence on the fuel temperature in the fuel feed line immediately downstream of the filter.

Abstract: Air-intake device for internal combustion engines in which the inlet end of an induction conduit is inserted into a hollow casing having a downward facing intake aperture in which a series of parallel baffle plates, by means of curved downstream end portions, deflect the induced air away from the inlet causing water droplets to collect on the casing roof and fall by gravity into annular water traps which have water discharge openings. The intake aperture is surrounded by an annular skirt, the upstream edge of which forms a drip-edge.
