  • Patent number: 5442881
Abstract: A safety gate that has a continuously adjustable width for insertion across a lateral opening such as a doorway. The gate has a generally U-shaped gate frame including two tubular frame members that are slidably connected in a telescoping relationship. A latch is operable to displace the telescoping portions by a pre-selected displacement relative to each other, so that part of the tubes are deflected and the gate frame applies an outward lateral force to the doorway opening sides to retain the gate across the opening. The gate includes a walk-through door with a door latch for latching the door closed and an indicator for indicating when it is not fully closed and latched. A force-distribution bar on at least one side of the gate distributes the force from that side of the gate so that it is applied at two points on that side of the doorway opening.

  • Patent number: 5441328
Abstract: An adjustable seat back has side sections that fold inward to provide lateral support for an infant or remain fiat to provide a wider seat back for a toddler. A wing adjustment assembly sewn into a section of the seat liner includes a pivoting actuator. By actuation of the lever section of the actuator that extends through an aperture in the liner at the rear of the stroller, the operator can pivot a pair of wing support sections outward on the front side of the liner. The seat back portion of the seat pad consists of a center portion and two side wing sections that are pivotal with respect to the center section about substantially vertical axes along two seams. The wing support sections of the actuator act to push the two wing sections of the seat pad forward providing a narrower seat to provide lateral support for an infant.

  • Patent number: 5373917
Abstract: A wheel brake mechanism is disclosed for a vehicle such as a carriage or stroller having a wheel mounted on an axle. The wheel is of the normal type having radially extending ribs with spaces or recesses therebetween. The brake housing is mounted for pivotal movement around the axle between a normal unbraking position and a braking position by depressing a foot pedal attached to the housing. The brake mechanism comprises a cam mounted within the brake housing, and a cam follower mounted on the vehicle body. The cam follower has a cam engagable portion and a wheel engaging portion. Pivotal movement of the brake housing to its braking position causes the cam to force the wheel engaging portion into a wheel recess for braking the wheel.

  • Patent number: 5363521
Abstract: A collapsible playpen having a pair of spaced apart articulated end frames, wherein the end frames are separated by articulated upper and lower rails. The end frames and rails are constructed so that the playpen is collapsed by folding the lower rails to draw lower portions of the end frames together and simultaneously rotating the upper portion of the opposing end frames away from each other such that the distance between the upper portion of the end frames is greater than the distance between the lower portion of the end frames.

  • Patent number: 5275464
Abstract: A vehicle booster seat includes a base adapted to be supported on a vehicle seat for supporting a child on the base in an elevated position relative to the vehicle seat; first and second side bolsters on the base extending upwardly from the base for laterally restraining the child; first and second slots in the first and second side bolsters for receiving the vehicle seat belt and guiding the seat belt over the child to restrain the child in the booster seat, and secure the booster seat to the vehicle seat; a removable shield for restraining a child in the booster seat with a lap belt only, the shield including a generally U-shaped shield body having first and second tongue members extending therefrom adapted to slidingly engage the first and second slots in the base respectively for receiving the U-shaped shield in the base; and a guide in the shield body for receiving a seat belt for securing the U-shaped shield to the base and securing the base relative to the vehicle seat.

  • Patent number: 5203581
Abstract: A baby walker includes a seat supported by a tray for surrounding a child in a standing position, and permitting the walker to move with the child as he walks, and for supporting a child in a seated position, a friction pad on the walker for selectively engaging the surface upon which the walker is supported for selectively inhibiting movement of the walker, a plurality of supporting wheels on the walker for supporting the walker for rolling translation on the supporting surface, and an adjustable suspension coupled between the walker and one or more of the supporting wheels for selectively actuating one of three modes of operation, namely a first mode in which the friction pad engages the surface substantially continuously for inhibiting movement of the walker, a second mode in which the walker is movably supported on the wheels when the child is standing and is supported on the friction pad means for inhibiting translation when the child is seated, and a third mode in which the walker is continuously suppor

  • Patent number: 5186674
Abstract: Toy paint applicators for creating the illusion of picking up paint and applying it to a surface. The present invention includes a toy paint applicator having a handle; a simulated paint receiving element having a translucent portion for simulating a paint receiving area of the applicator; a color imparting member movably disposed with respect to the translucent portion for movement between a coloring position for simulating the presence of paint on the paint receiving element, and a noncoloring position for simulating the absence of paint on the paint receiving element to create the effect of picking up paint and applying it to a surface. The toy paint applicator includes a first preferred embodiment of a paint roller for creating the illusion of applying paint to and from the roller and a second preferred embodiment of a paint brush.
