  • Patent number: 6498623
Abstract: The present invention includes a system and method for generating variable-length timing signals in an electronic imaging device. A digital camera device includes an electronic image sensor which requires a complex set of timing signals to effectively capture image data. The digital camera therefore also includes timing generation circuitry which generates a set of precise timing signals for a variable-length frame time necessary to control and synchronize the electronic image sensor within the digital camera. The present invention includes a transfer substrate charge (Xsub) source circuit and a frame time source circuit, each containing a downcounter. The point in time when the downcounters reach zero is available as a precise and programmable timing reference. Both the Xsub time and frame time source circuits are loaded from registers under software control.

  • Patent number: 6499016
Abstract: A method for automatically storing and presenting digital images is disclosed. The method includes capturing digital images with a digital camera and storing the images in an image file, where the file includes at least one speech field and at least one text-based tag. A categorization process is then initiated whereby a user speaks at least one category voice annotation into the digital camera to categorize an image, and the category voice annotation is stored in the speech field of the corresponding image file. The category voice annotation is then translated into at a text annotation using voice recognition, and the image and the text annotation are automatically stored in a database. An album may then be dynamically created by retrieving selected images and corresponding text annotations from the database in response to a request from the user, and displaying each image on the album along with the text annotations.

  • Patent number: 6480231
Abstract: A method and apparatus for de-interlacing a buffer of image data, wherein scan lines from an image sensor have been transferred to the buffer and stored in a group of even scan lines and a group of odd scan lines. The method for de-interlacing the buffer includes providing a first table to indicate current storage locations of each scan line in the buffer and providing a second table to indicate which scan line is currently stored in each storage location. The first table and a temporary line buffer are then used iteratively swap pairs of scan lines that are stored out of numerical order in the buffer, such that after a swap, one of the scan line in the pair is stored in numerical order in the buffer. After each swap, the first table is updated using the second table, and then second table is updated, such that the first and second tables reflect a change of storage locations for the scan lines, whereby the buffer is de-interlaced in place without using a duplicate buffer.

  • Patent number: 6460138
Abstract: A system and method for authenticating a user of a portable electronic device having a removable memory using asymmetric cryptography, the asymmetric cryptography requiring the use of a user'private key and public key. The method and system include storing the user'private key and public key on the portable electronic device. Thereafter, information including the user'personal identification number (PIN) is encrypted using the user'private key and public key, respectively, to create encrypted authentication information. The encrypted authentication information is then stored on a standard removable memory, such as a flash card. When the removable memory is subsequently inserted into the portable electronic device, the portable electronic device automatically decrypts the authentication information and prompts the user for a PIN code.
