Abstract: Described herein is an impact device that may be slidably coupled to a wire rope barrier terminal end and, in the event of an impact on or about the terminal end by a vehicle, the impact device is configured to slide or advance along the terminal end wire rope(s) towards a wire rope barrier end and away from a terminal end anchor position. In a further embodiment, a method is described of retrofitting existing wire-rope barrier terminal ends with the device. The impact device may simultaneously (at least to some extent) absorb kinetic energy from the impact as well as redirect the direction of impact along the terminal end wire rope(s) towards, and optionally along, the wire rope barrier itself depending on the extent of impact. The sliding action also knocks over any posts in the direction of errant vehicle travel in an impact.

  • Publication number: 20210310206
Abstract: A wire rope safety barrier comprising a plurality of line posts positioned along a roadway. A plurality of cables are attached to the line posts and extend between the line posts to define a safety barrier along the roadway. At least one of the plurality of cables is an external cable engaging an outer surface of the line posts. Each external cable is connected to the line posts by a cable holder inserted through the cable holder slot, and the cable holder has a body portion and a hook portion. Each cable holder has a locating notch at a bottom surface configured to engage with the lower edge of a corresponding cable holder slot.

  • Patent number: 9051699
Abstract: A pedestrian and vehicle barrier system is provided for attaching handrails onto vehicle guardrail barriers. The system comprises an elongate support post member with a slot at a bottom end, to be slid telescopically over a guardrail support post, and sleeved such that it is substantially restricted from moving laterally and/or rotating relative to the guardrail support post. Movement may be further restricted by fasteners. Handrails or other auxiliary barriers may be attached to a top end of the support post member.

Abstract: A pedestrian and vehicle barrier system is provided for attaching handrails onto vehicle guardrail barriers. The handrail attachment does not to unduly interfere with energy absorbing and/or dissipating features of vehicle guardrail barriers.

  • Publication number: 20080168725
Abstract: A masonry wall system includes a plurality of blocks. Each block has two external side walls and is adapted for use adjacent to further said blocks such that the side walls form at least one wall surface of a wall structure (40) constructed from the blocks. A plurality of the blocks include a tongue (8) projecting from a sidewall thereof. The blocks can be arranged such that a plurality of the tongues (8) combine to form a plurality of furring ridges (42) on the wall structure having a required spacing therebetween. In a preferred embodiment the spacing between the furring ridges (42) is greater than the length of the longest of the blocks used. A method of assembling a masonry wall is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6877290
Abstract: A plurality of building blocks (1) form a retaining wall (300), which may be curved, with respective side edges (6, 7) providing pivot points and a stepped base (5) of an upper block (1) being positionable on the upper surface (4) of a lower block (1). The gaps between the blocks 1, and their permeability, being made from permeable concrete, can avoid hydrostatic build up behind the wall (300). The permeability of the concrete used for the blocks (1) is in the range of 10?2 m/s to 10?4 m/s and may be in the region of 6.00×10?3 m/s.
