Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically weighing and separating specific individual quantities of a bulk material such as tobacco is disclosed. The weighing container is separated from the carrier and from the measuring system of a scale during the phase in the operating cycle during which no measuring is taking place so as to avoid operationally induced vibrations.

Abstract: A foldable blank for forming a cigarette pack is disclosed in the form of a blank which is first formed into a tube. The blank is sealed at its two longitudinal end flaps into side end flaps and the internal longitudinal end flap is connected by means of a closure strip which extends along the entire length of that flap to the inside of an outer longitudinal end flap. The pack is constructed using the outer longitudinal end flap as a folded member with the closure strip to the top of the inner longitudinal end flap.

Abstract: The disclosure is of a cigarette or like packet of composite foil, with lateral end flaps separated from inner neighboring longitudinal end flaps but continuously connected with outer longitudinal end flaps and folded in between the inner and outer end flaps with the formation of overlying triangular lappets. For making and filling the packet there is an apparatus with winding mandrels to roll the foil into a tube, and a turret having devices for filling the tube and forming it into a closed packet by folding end flaps.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sizing and fitting cover flaps over tray-type packets such that an optimum packet is formed regardless of the compressibility of the material to be enclosed.

Abstract: A packet made from a foldable blank is provided in which at least two end flaps of the blank are interconnected by pressing together in an intermediate position projecting from the plane of the end wall and front wall of the packet and being folded over into the plane of the end wall and front wall. There is also provided an improved method of mechanically making and closing packets, in which the end flaps projecting from the front surfaces are pressed together and connected to one another by pressing jaws and then folded over towards the front surfaces and fixed in the plane of the front surface. The apparatus described is for use in such a method.

Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus of making and filling a hinged box of a foldable material, more particularly cardboard, especially a hinged box for cigarettes, which box comprises a blank with front, rear and end walls, side walls formed from lateral flaps and a hinged lid. The end wall and front wall and the lateral flaps thereof are first simultaneously folded by movement of the blank in relation to folding tools into a position perpendicular to the rear wall and part of the blank adjoining the rear wall and thereafter further foldings are performed by the movement of folding tools in relation to the already partially folded blank.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for dispensing discrete portions of fibrous material, such as tobacco, which is supplied continuously in the form of a fleece or a web. The fibrous material is dispensed in discrete portions which are of a uniform density, by causing the fleece or web to be placed in a container. The uniform density is achieved by injecting air into the fleece or web stream to break up the web and form a uniform density strand by insertion of the fibrous material into the container. Once the container is filled, the strand is severed by a cutter.

Abstract: There is provided a method of and apparatus for packing rod-shaped articles, especially cigarettes. A rotatable turret is used, into which blanks are introduced into pockets of the turret, with partial folding of the blanks, whereafter groups of articles are axially introduced into the blanks in pockets, the article groups being introduced alternately from opposite sides of the turret. There is also provided an apparatus whereby article groups can be ejected alternately on both sides of a magazine and also an apparatus wherein, to form article groups from three article rows or layers, the middle row containing fewer cigarettes than the top and bottom rows, a lateral chute wall of the magazine terminates above the region of the cigarette groups to be ejected, merely articles of the top and bottom rows being ejectable in this region via a recess in the entraining member associated with the lateral chute, such recess being at the height of the middle cigarette row.

Abstract: An oblong pack for holding contents conforming to the pack configuration consists of a folded blank defining opposed sidewalls and end walls with the end walls comprising end flaps folded against the contents end face. The pack is characterized by the end flaps being of unequal length, only a portion of the end flaps of opposite sidewalls covering one another in the folded condition, and the blank having a tooth engagement of the end flaps with adjacent blanks so it may be parted substantially free from waste from a web.

Abstract: There is provided a compartmentalized structure with separating webs formed by pivoting cut lugs from a flat blank, for insertion into a package for dividing objects such as bottles or jars. At least one lug is formed in the vertical region of a blank outside the separating region and extends into the separating region by multiple folding.

Abstract: There is disclosed a technique for forming a pack from a foldable blank consisting of a compound foil for receiving rod-shaped articles, typically cigarettes. The blank encloses the contents of the pack in a tubular manner, and the front ends overlapping at least partially interconnected flaps are folded in such a way that an inner longitudinal end flap rests against the contents of the pack. Two side end flaps are folded on these longitudinal end flaps, and the second outer longitudinal end flaps are folded on the side end flaps and the first inner longitudinal end flaps. The sides of the longitudinal end flaps facing toward each other and the edge region of the inwardly folded side end flaps are connected together in a sealed manner by means of a straight bonded or adhesive strip which extends over the width of the pack in the half portion of the front face facing toward the outer longitudinal end flap.

Abstract: A "flip-top" cigarette pack includes a front wall 10 having outer side flaps 15 hinged thereto and a back wall 11 having inner side flaps 14 hinged thereto. A U-shaped insert collar 16 provided with side flaps 17 is fitted within the pack, and a foil wrapper 20 enclosing the cigarettes is fitted within both the pack and the insert collar. The side flap 14 has apertures 18 and 21. The foil wrapper is secured to the folded down flap 15 by adhesive 22 through aperture 21, while a preformed projection 19 on flap 17 engages the adhesive through aperture 18 to lock the insert collar rigidly in place.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus are disclosed for wrapping a two-piece foil blank about a group of articles, such as cigarettes, as the group is moved along a given path. The two-pieces, a main blank and a flap blank, are both cut from a single web of wrapping material and transported along different paths to the group of articles. The flap blank is placed on the group of articles as it moves along its path, and as the group contacts the main blank which is placed across its path of travel, it causes the main blank to be wrapped around the group of articles such that it overlaps a portion of the flap blank.

Abstract: There is provided a packet of cardboard or similar material, for cigarettes, cigarillos and the like, having a mainly double-layered cover which is articulated to the back wall and, when the box is closed, engages around an inwardly offset collar formed in the zone of the front and side walls and unitary with the basic body member. The collar is provided, at least in relation to the front wall, by Z-shaped folding.

Abstract: A cigarette packet of a laminated sheeting is disclosed which comprises an outer, thermally-bonded weldable layer, and wherein the end flaps of the blank forming the packet are joined to each other and project beyond the end sides. The end flaps are folded in such a way that an inner, longitudinal end flap bears on the packet contents, and two side end flaps are folded on this longitudinal end flap, and a second outer longitudinal end flap on the side of the first inner longitudinal end flap. The particular improvement disclosed utilizes a laminated foil having on both sides an outer thermally bondable layer, which extends over the entire end face of the layer and along an edge turned toward the edge of the inner longitudinal end flap. The side end flaps are joined at their diagonals along a welding strip which extends on a diagonal fold line adjoining the weld strip which extends along the length of the end face.
