Patent number: 7329172Abstract: A device and method for sharpening a mower blade are provided, in which a mounting device for mounting a rotary blade having two opposite cutting edges to be sharpened, wherein the mounting device is capable of positioning the blade in a first fixed state and a second, axially pivoting state. One or more grinding head assemblies are each positioned on an opposite end of the blade, wherein the grinding head assemblies respectively grind the two opposite cutting edges to be sharpened. A control system controls movement of the two grinding head assemblies.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2007Date of Patent: February 12, 2008Assignee: Foley-Belsaw CompanyInventors: James H. Patent number: 4569263Abstract: A method and apparatus for fine shearing a metal workpiece involves placing the workpiece on a stationary die surface for support and driving a single punch against the workpiece such that at least a portion of the workpiece is placed in compression. The punch is then driven into and through the workpiece along a predetermined path which has a first directional component both perpendicular to and directed toward the die surface and a second directional component both parallel to the die surface and directed into the compressed portion of the workpiece. The punch is driven with a force having components both perpendicular to and parallel to the path of the punch. The force component perpendicular to the punch path is large enough to keep the compressed portion of the workpiece in a plastic state. The force component parallel to the path of the punch is large enough to overcome the shear strength of the workpiece along the path.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1984Date of Patent: February 11, 1986Assignee: Foley-Belsaw CompanyInventor: Mordko L. Patent number: 4471673Abstract: A circular saw blade sharpening apparatus using a rotating grinder wheel has a base frame which includes an arcuate, planar adjusting table. An elongated positioning arm has one end rotatably connected to the adjusting table so that it rotates around a saw tip alignment axis located at the center point of the arc of the adjusting table. The other end of the arm rotates over the adjusting table. A saw holding fixture is mounted to move along the positioning arm and permits a saw blade to be mounted so that its tips will intersect the saw tip alignment axis. The grinder wheel is mounted for rotation around an axis parallel to the adjusting table. It can also be moved into and out of engagement with the saw tips to be sharpened.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1982Date of Patent: September 18, 1984Assignee: Foley Belsaw CompanyInventor: Roger K.
