  • Patent number: 5127750
Abstract: A refillable ink ribbon cartridge including an adapter element which can be permanently inserted in a typewriter and receive a replaceable ink ribbon. The adapter includes a ribbon drive mechanism for advancing the ink ribbon cassette. The adapter includes a body portion and two extending legs and centering pins at the free ends and a ribbon tensioning lever. The cassette is formed with a body portion and two protruding legs with guiding elements to guide the ribbon across the free end of the legs. A drive wheel is rotatably mounted on a spring loaded arm to pull the ribbon through the cartridge, the arm is rotatable about a drive pin. Upon insertion of the refill cassette into the adapter, the two systems align and interact so that the ribbon is guided by the associated protruding legs and guiding elements to run smoothly through the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 4735518
Abstract: An ink ribbon cassette having a multicarbon ribbon for switching from a rapid to a slow multicarbon mode is provided. The cassette includes a coupling element to be driven by a printing device. The coupling element rotates a manually shiftable gear mechanism which includes two sets of gears, which are axially displaceable with respect to each other. Each set of gears includes gears of different sizes with a driving wheel mounted on one set of gears. The driving wheel engages the ink ribbon take-up reel. The ability to change the speed of the ribbon advance makes it possible to use the same multicarbon ink ribbon cassette either for high print quality or for longer print duration.

  • Patent number: 4732500
Abstract: An improved drive mechanism for an ink ribbon cassette for advancing an ink ribbon particularly well suited for use in a typewriter is provided. The drive mechanism includes a drive roller rotatably supported in the casing with a free floating pressure ring supported by a roller. The pressure ring is supported against the roller and against the drive roller so that there is an increase in pressure with an increase in the tension of the ribbon.

  • Patent number: 4655623
Abstract: An ink ribbon cassette for winding an ink ribbon from a feed spool to a winding spool is provided. The cassette includes a base with a guide path for receiving a guide projection formed on a support member having a feed spool sleeve. A drive roller and controlling roller are rotatably mounted on the cassette base. A winding spool is rotatably mounted on the feed spool sleeve and biased towards the drive roller, and a feed spool is rotatably mounted on the feed spool sleeve and biased towards the controlling roller. The spool sleeves are positioned so that when the guide projection of the support moves within the guide path the winding spool operatively engages the drive roller and the support member pivots about the guide projection so that when the ribbon is wound from the feed spool to the winding spool, the feed spool maintains engagement with the controlling roller.

  • Patent number: 4426169
Abstract: A lift-off adhesively erasable typewriter ribbon contains, in a pigmentatious layer on the substrate strip, in addition to the pigment and a resin binder, a halogenated hydrocarbon modifier containing at least 14 carbon atoms serving to embrittle the resin binder and facilitate transfer of the layer from the ribbon to the paper during the writing process and to allow clean and adhesive removal of print if a correction is required.

  • Patent number: 4391536
Abstract: A print wheel assembly for a word processing machine utilizing a daisy wheel-type printer as a type-carrying disk in which the typefaces are mounted upon flexible members generally extending radially from a hub by which the wheel is mounted in the machine. According to the invention, a pigment carrier overlies the typefaces and can be of disk configuration and is so mounted on the wheel as to shift relative to the typefaces, whereby successive impacts are offset from one another for each typeface. The pigment carrier can be a bibulous or capillary fabric drawing ink from a reservoir dimensioned to supply sufficient ink to feed the transfer layer for the duration of the useful life of the wheel.
