Abstract: An apparatus and method for transporting a tool through a drill string in slimhole drilling operations is disclosed. A fluid passage such as a groove is formed in the inner wall of the pipe joint to permit the passage of fluid from one pipe section to an adjacent pipe section as a tool is transported through the pipe joint. In one embodiment of the invention, the tool can comprise a core barrel for retrieving a core sample from the wellbore.
