  • Patent number: 4910941
Abstract: A folded tube is paid out downward through the rotation of opposing feed rollers, and fitted on a mandrel member. The tube is then fitted on the mandrel and cut to a predetermined length by a cutting device disposed between the feed rollers and the mandrel. Subsequently the tube cut to the predetermined length is drawn downward along the mandrel by the rotating members and the tube is unfolded. Finally, the sufficient unfolded tube is dropped down from the mandrel and fitted on a cap portion of a bottle or container to be sealed.

  • Patent number: 4801348
Abstract: A film supply apparatus is described which is to be disposed alongside a container transport line and adapted to supply a film strip to be affixed to the lateral side of each container fed along said transport line. The apparatus includes at least one film suction element having an arcuate suction surface adapted to hold the film strip in position under suction. The film suction element successively transfers a film strip to each container the result of a composite motion consisting of its motion toward and away from the container and the rotary motion thereof in the circumferential direction of its arcuate suction surface.

  • Patent number: 4694633
Abstract: A film wrapping machine for wrapping a film around a container comprising a rotary turntable assembly for transporting containers from one station to another. The machine includes a film supply unit for supplying each film onto a respective container carried by the turntable assembly, and a plurality of film retaining members one for each container carried by the turntable assembly. During the rotation of the turntable assembly, the film retaining meers are successively lifted to a raised position and are then rotated around the respective containers for turning the films therearound. Each film retaining member has suction openings defined therein in at least two rows, one row of the suction openings being adapted to suck one end of the respective film and the other row of the suction openings adapted to such a portion of the respective film adjacent the other end thereof. Rotation of the film retaining member results in the turning of the respective film around the associated container to form the film tube.

  • Patent number: 4595544
Abstract: A method of manufacturing containers covered tightly with a protective sheet with a porous resin film layer or rubber film layer in-between.By the method of this invention, a resin solution or rubber solution is foamed mechanically in advance and the foamed layer made by the foamed resin film or the foamed rubber film then is covered with a heat shrinkable sheet which is heat shrunk tightly to the containers. The foamed layer does not shrink during the heating. Accordingly, the surface of the heat shrinkable sheet is free from waviness due to gas foaming of the covered layer during heat shrinking which has been the case with conventional methods. The method, therefore, does not affect the appearance or printing performance of the surface of the heat shrinkable sheet.

  • Patent number: 4293364
Abstract: A cylindrical film tube is to be fitted over an object. Initially the tube is in a flattened state with its opposite sides touching one another. First two vacuum suckers are contacted to the collapsed tube, one on each of its sides, so as to oppose one another. Vacuum is supplied to these suckers so that they suck and grip the tube. Then they are moved relative to one another in a direction parallel to the surfaces of the tube which they are gripping, so as to shear these surfaces relative to one another and break their contact with one another, in case they are adhering together. Then the suckers are moved apart from one another in the direction perpendicular to the film surfaces which they grip, so as to open up the tube. Lastly, the opened-up tube is fitted over the object. In a preferred embodiment, the shear direction is perpendicular to the generators of the flattened tube. A machine is also disclosed for performing this process repeatedly.

  • Patent number: 4290992
Abstract: A method for forming a closed end on a tube of heat-shrinkable film wherein the tube is placed over a cylindrical mold with one end of the tube extending beyond top end of the mold, includes forming a pattern of grooves in the mold's top end, and then heating the tube so that it shrinks and tightly contacts and covers the grooved end of the mold. Excess film protruding from the end of the tube which has shrunk against the grooved end of the mold is cut off or folded down and then this end of the tube is pressed with a heated smooth plate against the grooved end of the mold. Excess film material remaining on this end portion of the tube is squeezed into the grooves, whereby the end of the film tube is formed with a uniform thickness and with low thermal stresses thereby reducing any tendency for distortion of the closed end and providing a surface that can be more easily printed on.

  • Patent number: 4287700
Abstract: A machine for fitting a sleeve seal of a flat form over a container, wherein a pair of half-mandrels are mounted on a rotating member so as to be movable apart and together. A pair of suction cups grip the sleeve seal and move apart so as to somewhat open it; then the suction cups move, together, towards the axis of the rotating member so as to put the sleeve seal over the half-mandrels, which are together; then the rotating member rotates and the half-mandrels move apart to open up the sleeve seal; and then the half-mandrels are aligned over the container, and a pushing means pushes off the sleeve seal from the half-mandrels.
