Abstract: A device for gripping objects having a body with opposing sides, each side having a plurality of inwardly directed cylinders aligned with cylinders from the opposing side to receive a plurality of pistons extending between the aligned cylinders. The cylinders define a space located axially off the ends of the pistons. Internal fluid passages within the gripping device interconnect the spaces off the ends of the pistons to a first and second port which are disposed for connection to an external fluid pressure source. The fluid passages in communication with the first and second ports are connected to the ends of each piston in such a manner that applying a relatively high fluid pressure to the first port and a relatively low fluid pressure to the second port will cause the pistons to move axially in the direction from the space in communication with the first port toward the space in communication with the second port.
